Inside a sleek Denver condominium, George W. Bush let a hundred donors to his brothers campaign in on a secret. Of all the rival Republican candidates, there is one who gets under the former presidents skin, who he views as perhaps Jeb Bushs most serious rival for the partys nomination.
It isnt Donald Trump, whose withering insults have sought to make Jeb pay a political price for his brothers presidency. It also isnt Marco Rubio, Jebs former understudy who now poses a serious threat to his establishment support.
Its George W. Bushs former employee Ted Cruz.
I just dont like the guy, Bush said Sunday night, according to conversations with more than half a dozen donors who attended the event.
One donor in the room said the former president had been offering mostly anodyne accounts of how the Bush family network views the current campaign and charming off-the-cuff jokes, until he launched into Cruz.
I was like, Holy shit, did he just say that? the donor said. I remember looking around and seeing that other people were also looking around surprised.
The tenor of what he said about the other candidates was really pretty pleasant, another donor said. Until he got to Cruz.
Bush took a harsh view of Cruzs apparent alliance with Trump, who stood with the senator at a Capitol Hill rally last month in opposition to the Iran deal. While Trump, the current GOP poll leaders, has attacked most of his competitors in the 2016 field, he has avoided criticizing Cruz.
One donor, paraphrasing the former presidents comment in response to a broad question about how he viewed the primary race and the other Republican candidates, said: He said he found it opportunistic that Cruz was sucking up to Trump

GW Bush won the governorship of Texas from the odious Ann Richards (D). She was a loud, leftist, obnoxious, alcoholic lesbian.
Bush left nearly all of her political appointees in their positions. And he basically did the same thing when he got to DC.
Well, this is Politico, so I’ll take it with a grain of salt. If true, it’s very disappointing.
I for one would STILL rather have had Bush in than Gore. But yeah - he did a lot of things wrong.
I like Cruz. I can see Cruz wanting to stay out of the fray of opening up the past history - unless he can hang it on some of the current pack of RINOs - which he could I imagine.
Or - just leave it as “Yes - I can understand that G.W. doesn’t like me much. I fought for Texas State’s rights - and won- when he was President. He doesn’t like me because I antagonize the GOP establishment. And in the past I have criticized some “elements of his foreign policy and faulting the administration for enabling “bigger government and excessive spending and new entitlements.”
And just to make it clear - I will continue to criticize and fight against anyone that is for bigger government and excessive spending.
George W. Bush is well acquainted with his home-state senator, who served as a domestic policy adviser on his 2000 campaign before rising to national prominence by distancing himself fromand often going out of his way to antagonizethe GOP establishment. In his book published earlier this year, Cruz ripped Bushs record, criticizing elements of his foreign policy and faulting the administration for enabling “bigger government and excessive spending and new entitlements.”
While Jeb Bushs campaign is spending far more time of late pushing out information that contrasts favorably with Rubio, his oldest brother seemed to see Cruz as the biggest threat in the end. According to several donors, the former president said not to doubt Cruzs strength.
He said he thought Cruz was going to be a pretty formidable candidate against Jeb, especially in Texas and across the South, a donor said.
Cruz’s campaign declined to comment.

The Politico probably is enjoying the cognitive dissonance they imagine this article will cause.
Actually, I love it. Pulls back the veil further.
The GOPe has really dropped its pants recently, now they can be identified and eradicated. They’ve been fooling the majority of their electorate for far too many decades now.
If bush don like Cruz.. i love Cruz even more
Ike was forced by the cigar smoking boys in the backroom to accept Nixon as VP. He wanted his twice nominator and powerful Mayor and Governor of MD, Ted McKeldin, a genuine man of the people.
Later it was Reagan who was obliged to accept Bush, an insider with money and connections to the elite.
Even with the best of leaders the claws of the privileged have kept their hold on their power. This time they must be stopped.
Deal with it W, Jeb and Hillary...
W must owe Rove big.
Sorry I don't have the exact wording. Anyway, tell me Ted and his people never felt that way about his own enemies in the party, and we can beat up on Bush again.
OK, let’s begin with GHWBush, a weak compromise VP that Ronald Reagan settled on to get yankee, Rockefeller countryclub repub establishment types to come to his side in the nomination.
After Ronald Reagan’s fantastic 8 years, in which he kicked commie and socialist a@@ all over the world and at home, GHWBush ran on coat tails and his mystical time as our Man in china and CIA dir (aka legal worldwide narcotrafficker/investment counselor LOL). His platform— dismantle everything Ronald Reagan had put in place to send the US economy soaring for decades. Remember he called Reagan’s economics “Voodoo economics” as he carried the establishment torch. He was a flop, one-term president (read my lips, no new taxes-— then taxes the crap out of everybody, and throws up on the Japs- a loser).
Thanks to him.... we got Bill freakin’ clintoon (his drug dealing Mena AR partner in trade) for eight disgusting years. And then.... GWB... who was, based on his first actions against the China shootdown of our P-3 Orion spyplane, a ONE termer for certain. And, along comes 9-11, and voila’— re-elect incompetent who ran up a hell of a bill on us and reduced freedoms because we couldn’t have done the obvious and shut down the influx of islamfascists into the US (including Saudis, btw).
And this gets us-— obamaumao. So Bush begat Clintoon, begat a Bush, begat a kenyan maomau (sic intended) and now-— another GD Bush or a Clintoon? No thanks.
He said he found it opportunistic that Cruz was sucking up to Trump and just expecting all of his support to come to him in the end, that donor added.
So, if Cruz were a Bush cuckold that’d be okay?
Brother Neil ended up before a congressional committee after his failed savings and loan cost the taxpayers umpteen millions. When publicly pressed on the shady activities of some of his business associates, he came p with the novel interpretation of partnership law: “those guys were partners of mine, I wasn’t a partner of theirs”. Real dumbness runs in this family. Ted Cruz, on the other hand, did not come from wealth, but he’s a Princeton grad, member of the debating team, Harvard Law grad and I think he understands partnership law.
I thought it was just politics. What a revealing thing to say by Bush.
Didn’t you hear from Mrs. Senior Bush— “Bill is just like family to us” Bill freakin’ clinton? White powder, folks that is what they all have in common, and Yalie crap and utter empty argyle sock falsehood. Vote for me, because.... and now... hitlery? Think not. They are all corrupt, and obamaumao is empowered by ALL of them.
Mark Levin is talking about this right now.
“I just dont like the guy, Bush said.”
Well, the Big Government Republican Establishment continues to show who they view as the enemy.
McCain, Grahamnesty, Peter King, Romney, Jorge Bush. I guess it’s like putting a crucifix in front of Dracula.
I think W just endorsed Cruz!!!
Barbara Bush says Sarah Palin was ‘beautiful’ and hopes she ‘stays in Alaska’

So Cruz wanted to follow the law?
I am waiting to see if Obama is invited to join the “family” next year.
