So using that logic was President Reagan to blame for the killing of 299 Marines in Beirut in 1983?

Asking the public at the time? Yes.

That is why they were withdrawn.

You are C-in-C. That means the buck stops with you. Unfair of a thing it is considering the circumstance, your only redemption is the response....Which we can see has mad mixed results at best.

According to Reagan himself, he was to blame.

Yes; It's called leadership. The guy or gal in charge is always responsible for whatever goes right or goes wrong in their command.

It was President Reagan's administration that directed the Marines to intervene more directly in Lebanon and to have the navy shell the Shouf Mountain and Suq al Gharb positions of the Muslim factions. Reagan sided with the State Department to keep the Marines at the Beirut International Airport where they were vulnerable to attack despite DoD requests to move them back aboard their ships.

Reagan was a great President and leader but he did make mistakes. That was one big one.

IT’S NOT ABOUT BLAME!!!!!!

Go back and find the audio, video or even the full transcript. He never tried to lay blame, period. He was commenting on JEB riding his brother’s “He kept us safe” meme as a campaign moniker and making the point of the FACT that it happened on GW’s watch. Something even GW said himself.

Yes. He put our troops square in the thick of a middle eastern civil war and began bombing and shelling one side, all with no coherent strategy for victory. Sound familiar?

It was largely overshadowed by the rescue mission to Granada a few days later, or the political fallout probably would have been worse.

I don't know about the "logic," but, consider this: The majority of hijackers were, in fact, illegal aliens. Their visa applications were a joke-- lots of missing information, bad grammar, and obviously fake stuff, like fake cities and the like. On top of that, they overstayed their Visas.

The irony is that a strong position against illegal immigration, as well as an acknowledgment of Islamic terrorism, would have saved us from 911.

Speaking of keeping America safe and national security, how crazy was it when Bush's Homeland Security boss Chertoff was found to have people who entered the country illegally wandering around his residence? During war time?☺

How ya like that safety and national security?

How about when Bush celebrated Cinco De Mayo up in the White House while flooding the country with tens of millions of illegals during war time?

Or allowing in more Muslims AFTER 911 than the previous two decades prior to 911.

This is keeping America safe?
