Bush has been warned that Bin Laden was planning to attack the US
On Aug. 6, 2001, President George W. Bush received a classified review of the threats posed by Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network, Al Qaeda. That mornings presidential daily brief the top-secret document prepared by Americas intelligence agencies featured the now-infamous heading: Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S. A few weeks later, on 9/11, Al Qaeda accomplished that goal.If Bush had really been so concerned about our security, he would have ordered the State Department and related agencies to check up on the activities of recent Muslim visitors from suspect Middle Eastern nations. In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush officials attempted to deflect criticismthat they had ignored C.I.A. warnings by saying they had not been told when and where the attack would occur. That is true, as far as it goes, but it misses the point. Throughout that summer, there were events that might have exposed the plans, had the government been on high alert. Indeed, even as the Aug. 6 brief was being prepared, Mohamed al-Kahtani, a Saudi believed to have been assigned a role in the 9/11 attacks, was stopped at an airport in Orlando, Fla., by a suspicious customs agent and sent back overseas on Aug. 4. Two weeks later, another co-conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, was arrested on immigration charges in Minnesota after arousing suspicions at a flight school. But the dots were not connected, and Washington did not react.
According to the article quoted above, the warnings actually had started coming as early as May 1st, so Bush had time to react.

My folks said the same thing.
Because. Jamie Gorelick installed a wall of separation between domestic and foreign intelligence to protect Muslims at the behest of President William Dickhead Jefferson Clinton.
The blame lies at the feet of Islamic jihadists scum.
The Intel failures lie at the feet of Clinton. Bush was not a freaking seer nor could he turn around an Intel community in 8 months.
But I am sure that Trump could have built a better wall than Gorelick if that is any consolation to Trump bootlickers.
Well kick me again Bush didn’t do a damn thing about conducting a complete and thorough investigation of Sandy Berger’s stealing and destroying the secret document while the 911 hearings were being conducted in congress
Yes, but the CIC is the CIC.
I was on his side at the time. Hindsight has given me a different perspective. Government surveillance of Americans, bank bailouts, stupid Iraq venture.
The Bush family, the Clinton family, the Obama Family. All of them need to fade into history and be judged by what they created.
So far, so good.
It’s interesting that so many conservatives believe in “accountability” when it comes to Clinton and Obama - but not for W.
GWB was no conservative. Why didn't he get all invaders out of the US after 911? Why do we take in people like the Tsarnov brothers? What is Jeb doing? Denying that his brother was President when 911 happened?
Jeb should get out of the race. He's no conservative. Not only that, defending his brother blinds him to the facts.
He did. He said as much. I still like and respect W as a man, despite severe disagreements with him. Heb on the other hand is a dumb POS.
Exactly.
In the aftermath of the Sept. 11th attacks, Bush let the Saudis fly from America to Saudi Arabia while the rest of America was literally still grounded. Pathetic.
He also called Islam a “Religion of Peace,” and allowed more muslims to come to America.
I thought I read somewhere that there were 2 million muslims in the U.S. on September 11, 2001, and now there are over 8 million.
Of course, Obama is to blame for most of the muslim migration to America, but Bush had a hand in it, to.
Reconquista is the conservative way to go.
It is sad to see so many people flock to the liberal trump just because he is currently saying what they want to hear. Trump is a salesman but I would never vote for him.
You really think there are that many strong W supporters?
Maybe among the establishment - but they were already for Jeb.
Average folks, even if they won’t say it out loud, know that W was a failed president. Anyone remember the depression of 2008? Don’t you remember the fears that there would be a run on the banks? That was W’s last year in office. He was the modern Herbert Hoover.
Two words: Jamie Gorelick
You make an excellent point. Roosevelt bombed Japan, the country that bombed us a Pearl Harbor. So why didn't GWB disintegrate Saudi Arabia after 911?
“The Intel failures lie at the feet of Clinton. Bush was not a freaking seer nor could he turn around an Intel community in 8 months.”
Well according to Snowden, they have taken care of the intelligence part quite nicely. The Patriot Act has become a malignant tumor on the land of the free and the home of the brave. I will admit that is was an idea that seemed to be a good idea at the time, but what TPTB have done with it is frightening.
Just like his wife blinds him to immigration and his donors blind him to their political leanings.
The author brings up issues leading up to August, but I suppose Bush was barely even innaugerated then.
I don’t blame him for 911, but I do hold him partially responsible for what’s happened since. In retrospect, he wasn’t serious about executing the war, he didn’t enforce many of our laws that could have prevented more loss of innocent life, and he let many lies go unchallenged which helped usher in Obama.
Same here.
