America's power is being tested to a greater extent, than in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961.
Russia is attacking the Al-Qaeda linked terrorist organization, the Free Syrian Army, which is a so-called ally of America. China indicated that it will join the military strikes against the anti-Assad forces, because China considers Assad as an ally: http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/100915-774990-china-joining-russia-to-humiliate-us-weakened-by-obama.htm
China is now ready to fight to defend its unilateral control of the Spratley Islands in the South China Sea.
Does America have enough military power to defeat a combined force of Russia and China?
"Operation 'Get Behind the Darkies.'"
Overseas, perhaps. At home? I doubt it.
Off shore, we can project 8 of 10 carrier groups worth of sea power and a 4 division Marine Corps capable of mid-length self-sustenance at any given time. 8-or 10 un committed Divisions worth of active Army and regen ready NG Combat Divs, with an Air Force capable of moving 3 or so at a time, virtually anywhere in the world. Strat and Tac Air forces of which the world drools over-okay, minus the F35(?) squads.
At home, everything military uncommitted, dozens of federal and state armed organization (LE) here plus an unorganized militia self armed to the tune of 300 million arms, and perhaps 40 million men not committed to critical infrastructure and production.....
Of course, first we would have to quell the unrest in the streets from anarchists awaiting such an event, so figure 5 million more men committed to deputization to do so....
What other nation can arm most of the rest of the world’s armies from our gun cabinets and pick up truck racks and are rather well suited to the use thereof? None. Rural America in reality rules, just not obviously nor politically.
The scariest question is indeed, do we as a nation, have the will to so do? Nagging question.
Which then means the US no longer has foreign policy for that part of the world. And has stabbed its allies there in the back.
It would make us much, much poorer.
Autarky is idiocy. All one needs to do is try themselves for a while to see its 'benefits'.
Free trade increases the production of wealth. Free trade isn't a problem. The problem is a government that is able to borrow without any free market restraints because it can print money.
Worth it?
I never thought it was worth a single American dollar, much less a life, to protect any of the middle east's despots. Our presidents, and too many of our people, thought otherwise.
That's a violation of the Constitution, and would have calamitous economic effects.
The 'intra-governmental' holdings are a financial sophistry, and I would like to see those eliminated.
from non-allies and go to war with the biggest one China. That would put them away, twice.
I'm not sure what you think could be gained by destroying our wealth in a war with China (or anyone else for that matter).
The USA was self sufficient all the way thru the 1970s. We were MUCH better off economically. The current situation, which has nothing to do with Free Trade, is not sustainable. Fail.
Short term inflation, in the long run prices would return to pre tariff levels.
China is raping the USA economically and you feel better about it? It thought this was a Conservative web site. With "Patriots" like you who needs enemies?
The answer to the question is precisely and simply, yes.
We would have air and sea dominance and could fight a standoff war and win it relatively easily, without invading Russia or China proper.
If Barky is still commander in chief, the United States won’t be able to defeat Luxembourg.
It seemed like the height of genius to Dubya and the liberal internationalist crowd he chose as advisors. Just knock off Saddam, give Iraqis the vote, and they’ll be indistinguishable from, oh, New Yorkers.
We went to war with the British in no small part because of their efforts to curb our world trade. We've always been a trading nation, because trade makes us richer by maximizing production.
We have never been 'self sufficient', we have always traded. We seek to impose autarky (via 'sanctions') on other nations as punishment, not to make them stronger.
We were MUCH better off economically.
You are mistaken. Look up the average salary in 1970 and then how many man hours at that salary it would 'cost' someone to buy a TV, a car, or a refrigerator.
The current situation, which has nothing to do with Free Trade, is not sustainable. Fail.
The problem since the 1970s is a government unbound by the laws of supply and demand in the issuance of debt. It has nothing at all to do with trade. If anything, our ability to trade has preserved and enhanced on living standards in the face of rapacious government spending.
The politicians and bankers who profit from the government printing money would love for you to focus on producers and traders as the source of our ills. Don't be fooled!
Let me assure you that we have no “wealth” owing our a@@ to China, and following the idiotic advice of bankers. What you call “wealth” is blips on a screen and interfered with constantly by non-sovereign entities who are not answerable to the American citizens. And THAT is non-constitutional.
For example: allowing chinee (spelling intentional) to purchase Smithfield (major pork producer of US source pork— processed in the US)... and THEN pushing through an OK for pork produced in the US to be shipped to China for processing, packaged and then shipped back-— with the proviso that the
“Country of Origin” not be designated. IOW pork from unknown sources packaged and shipped to us— without any of our safeguards and the chain of custody not within our border.
Sort of like Argentinian beef.
Oh, and btw- selecting the chinee for our non-payment is a leverage. But most importantly, how would a now-potemkin village bankrupt china manage anything without their own ability to pay for strategic tools.
Hegemony works both ways. The only way to cut off the bank/politician destruction of our economics is to stop paying them. Which takes willpower no-one in DC has.
So, don’t worry-— we’ll continue to borrow every GD dime from china, and push the “cash” around our banks at zero percent a little while longer. What say you? 33 trillion in debt OK? Just keep hedging and making bucks on the short, till the short runs out. Oh, and buying a bugout place in Singapore.
Yes, but we lack the will. Both Russia and China are geographically pinned down to fight a major offensive campaign against the US. We still have superior mobility and technology.
Bottom line: You can be in favor of gloBULLism and what it has done to decimate America's middle class and our industrial base or you can be a Patriot. But you cannot be both.
Prithee pray tell.. WHAT is our foreign policy from the junkie amalgam monkey that “rules” us and wants to create a national police force to complete the suppression of the nation?
This only takes willpower. And willing to bet that ANZAC countries would be glad to be rid of the chinee thugs... just as they were japaner thugs. That is, after all why they are our allies- and why they want a REAL leader in the US. Not a islamofascist plant and mack daddy.
In the 60's my father, no college, provided house, two cars and vacations every year for family of 5. And no, he was not in a union of any kind. The NEVER used credit cards. I watch my dad pay cash for a brand new 1970 Maverick $2300.00.
One generation later, both my wife and I are college educated and we cannot do that and not run up huge debt. Try to pay cash for a new car now.
$28K for something economy class now. Inflation is out of control. How we measure it is laughable. I give it the same weight I give the official unemployment rate.
