All eyes are on the Democrats side of the equation going into their first presidential candidate debate next week, but Donald Trump remains an odds-on favorite among Republicans.
The latest Rasmussen Reports Trump Change national telephone survey finds that 58% of Likely Republican Voters believe The Donald is likely to end up as their partys presidential nominee in 2016, with 24% who say it is Very Likely. Thirty-seven percent (37%) say a Trump nomination is unlikely, including 14% who feel its Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
These findings are basically unchanged from a week ago when Trump rebounded from a recent low among GOP voters of 52% who said he is the likely nominee. A high of 66% predicted that in early September, but only 27% of Republicans felt a Trump nomination was likely when he formally announced his candidacy in mid-June.
Among all likely voters, 48% think Trump is likely to win the Republican nomination; 47% consider that outcome unlikely. This includes 18% who say it is Very Likely and another 18% who believe it is Not At All Likely. This, too, is essentially the same as last weeks findings.
Since the last survey, Trump has said gun control is not the answer to incidents like the recent college shooting in Oregon and has announced his opposition to bringing any Syrian refugees to the United States.
GOP voters overwhelmingly oppose stricter gun control laws. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Republicans and 49% of all voters say the government should not allow any refugees to come here to help Europe deal with the Middle Eastern migrant crisis it is now facing.
The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted on October 6-7, 2015 by Rasmussen Reports.

Oh please, you are just here to heartily rile up the Cruz supporters and make the Trump supporters feel like a bunch of Democrats. Say hi to Rove for me! Nice try.
Well, you gave me goosebumps. I was just about to turn off the computer and I thought I’d give on last look.
I did get one nasty, but yours was so kind that I’ll do as you say ...take the positive.
Thanks so much, GOPJ
As an aside, I am a true conservative.
Reporting that I got two positives and one negative.
You are right, take the positives and leave the rest.
Thank you, Califreak (you are definitely not a freak)
That is something that is often overlooked here. Trump polls almost well with working class democrats as he does with republicans. He is putting back together the coalition that Reagan built back in the 1980's
Some people just like to be nasty, if you are going to be active on FR you need thick skin. Welcome aboard, I happen to disagree with you about Trump but I tend to try to keep the discussion civil.
Nope, you dope.
I called you a liar and told you to piss off, and said you are stupid.
No where, did I imply that you are a liberal, although I hope you are, because if you are conservative, we are in deep fecal matter.
Post the time/date, and comment where Rush said that Ted Cruz couldn't be elected or PISS OFF you stupid conservative.
Can someone tell me when Trump became a conservative Republican?"
He isn't a conservative...not even close.
In July, just three months ago, he told an interviewer that he was a Democrat in a lot of ways.
It's interesting to go back just a few years and look at Trump threads from that period. He was widely regarded as a joke and a shyster then.
I've seen nothing that tells me any different, other than a lot of blustering talk.
Maris, please don’t allow these types to push you off the forum.
Keep in mind, Trump fans tend to be loud, and they think they can shout Cruz supporters down. (They’re wrong).
Cruz wins every FR straw poll. If you look at Trump threads, quite often you will see the same handful of people posting over and over.
You’re a sensible, rational, decent, kind person, and I know that you’re a true, solid conservative. You are a credit to the forum.
Call the doctor and tell him it’s time to up your medication dosage.
“You NEVER heard Rush Limbaugh say, imply, infer, that Ted Cruz cannot win.”
Not possible to hear anyone infer anything.
Maris - We Frasier fans named our kitten after you: Maris Crane.
You hear what people say, then draw an inference.
Infer: deduce or conclude (information) from evidence and reasoning rather than from explicit statements.
Megyn Kelly is absent more and more from her show. My theory is that she is on her way out and making her arrangement to bail out. She has probably lost a lot of viewers.
A lot of people are snobs and always have to preface their comments about Trump with the idea that they would never vote for him or support him but they will take everything he has to offer before they throw him under the bus.
Even Republicans have a substantial free lunch crowd that won’t lift a finger to help the fighters like Trump. They are negative so they don’t have to get up to do anything aka armchair quarterbacks.
Go TRUMP!!!
I would like to send you FR mail. It is about Cruz.
For a long time I have researched the man and have found disturbing information. Will you read it?
For a long time I have researched the man and have found disturbing information. Will you read it?"
You expect me to take seriously anything an unhinged Cruz birther could "find"?
Ann Coulter might be interested. Send it to her.
I was a little taken aback by some of the posts that were directed to me back last month and then tonight I decided to be strong and check in.
your posts to me were so adorable that I may...come back.
I love animals and to think that an adorable cat has been named for my pseudo=name is very touching.
I may just return to posting again.
I cannot tell you how welcomed your comments are.
Thanks.
When we rescued this scrawny little feral kitten she was skin and bones and seemed “narrow” for some reason. We were in the heyday of watching old “Frasier” re-runs and the kitty reminded us of how Niles’ wife was depicted verbally. We had to name her “Maris Crane”!
The first time we took her to the vet to be spayed and to get her shots, the vet tech who checked her in couldn’t stop laughing when we told her the name. She was a “Frasier” fan, too.
