Rasmussen: Trump’s Chances for Nomination Hold Steady
rasmussenreports.com ^ | October 09, 2015

All eyes are on the Democrats’ side of the equation going into their first presidential candidate debate next week, but Donald Trump remains an odds-on favorite among Republicans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports Trump Change national telephone survey finds that 58% of Likely Republican Voters believe “The Donald” is likely to end up as their party’s presidential nominee in 2016, with 24% who say it is Very Likely. Thirty-seven percent (37%) say a Trump nomination is unlikely, including 14% who feel it’s Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

These findings are basically unchanged from a week ago when Trump rebounded from a recent low among GOP voters of 52% who said he is the likely nominee. A high of 66% predicted that in early September, but only 27% of Republicans felt a Trump nomination was likely when he formally announced his candidacy in mid-June.

Among all likely voters, 48% think Trump is likely to win the Republican nomination; 47% consider that outcome unlikely. This includes 18% who say it is Very Likely and another 18% who believe it is Not At All Likely. This, too, is essentially the same as last week’s findings.

Since the last survey, Trump has said gun control is not the answer to incidents like the recent college shooting in Oregon and has announced his opposition to bringing any Syrian refugees to the United States.

GOP voters overwhelmingly oppose stricter gun control laws. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Republicans – and 49% of all voters – say the government should not allow any refugees to come here to help Europe deal with the Middle Eastern migrant crisis it is now facing.

The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted on October 6-7, 2015 by Rasmussen Reports.

I actually don’t think that he can win the nomination but I love his run and how he is the center of the media ha.

He has also provided information regarding FOX News which was not previously known (not just his conflict with them). That is also a good thing.

All in all, a good run and let folks know just how FOX News stands with the Republican Party and how they support them.

That 14% is primarily GOPe pollsters and consultants.

Well, I think Trump will win the nomination in a cakewalk, unless somebody else jumps in.

He just withstood a bombardment of negative ads paid by the club for growth and lost no ground. His supporters have nowhere else to go.

Well I will be surprised if he does win but will not be disappointed as the Republican Party is so awful now.

It’s the General Election that I fear that he could not win, not so much the Republican nomination but it just might be the spark that starts the revolt (against current government and their spendthrift ways) which I would welcome...

Who are you hoping for and thinking can win—through to the general election?

Hoping for Cruz but would take most anyone other than another GOPe candidate! Anyway, if another one of their friends, will just get out of politics and wait for the collapse.

Cruz and Trump seem to be the only non-GOPe candidates running—and Cruz himself is partial-GOPe, when you consider TPA/TPP, etc. (Don’t fool yourself into thinking they’re not behind Carson and Fiorina as well.)

Well, I almost agree... I would not include Carson in that group but he is not exactly what I would call a Conservative with some of his ideas. Fiorina is almost an insider, I agree and would probably rule as such. Cruz has been fighting the establishment since being elected so don’t think of him as even a partial part of the establishment although I can understand why you would say that as he has been in power for a while (but using his position to fight the establishment).

So, yes, I would love for Cruz (the ultimate Tea Party fellow) to shake things up and I think he would but of course so would Trump. Not sure anyone else running would.

Other than that, it just may not matter as it might be only another 4 years or so before things collapse beyond recovery. If they don’t get control of the debt then it just may not matter much at all...

He gets hit daily by the media and others. No effect at all. If Trump falls it will because of Trump not others.

Yeah, my hope is for Trump/Cruz right now, so as to set Cruz up for down the line. But of course we’ve still a long way to go before the first vote. (And I don’t get to vote until it’s likely all decided.)

Someone also saw the latest New Hampshire Gravis poll. Trump 32 - Carson 13 - Kasich 10 - Fiorina 8 - Rubio 8

Sometimes it is very disheartening to read polls and subsequent remarks/opinions and I feel compelled to give my opinion:

We, conservatives, have waited...how long?...to have a real conservative run for presidency. When I was listening to Rush, I vividly recall his saying...a real conservative with strong conservative ideas is an absolute guaranteed winner.

Well, we have a true conservative, and what I am seeing and hearing...especially surprising from Rush...that Cruz, an admittedly true conservative...cannot WIN. So, people say they will vote for someone who is likely to win. Does this make any sense at all?

If we, as supposedly conservatives, cannot support Cruz, including Rush, because of some fixation that he cannot win because he committed some infraction or did not have “charisma” which, obviously from this post, has no bearing on my decision, then I have no hope for the republic.

We simply cannot be trusted to place the survival of the country above petty crap and I actually am beginning to adapt the feeling of “I don’t care.”

Bottom line, we had the chance to prove what we said we wanted, by supporting the one person who could give us that and we punted. Very depressing.

Cruz needs charisma. My mother says there is something about him she can’t like in the way he comes across. I’m pretty sure my mom has never been wrong, not that I listen ..haha. My mom loves Trump and hates Megan Kelly or Kelly Megan or whatever her name is!

“I actually don’t think that he can win the nomination “

Why? Because he leads in every national and state poll? Oh you are one of those that think Trump will just give up and drop out because he’s tire of it all. LOL!

You can’t or shouldn’t believe these polls. I was called by Rassmussen last week. My answers make it appear I am a minority democrat who likes Trump and thinks the country is going in the wrong direction, oh, and I have no savings and a low income job and spent no money on extras in the past month. Polls and the census, the only time I lie for the fun of it.
