A Sacramento mother is outraged over a Playmobil pirate ship set figurine that resembles an African American slave wearing a neck shackle.
Ida Lockett of Sacramento said her 5-year-old son received the toy as a birthday present. When she was helping him assemble it, she noticed the instructions told her to put a play shackle around the figure’s neck.

You can free the slave. The clip isn’t permanently attached. Just throw the clip overboard.

So slaves weren’t black. Good. Now we don’t have to hear about the “legacy of slavery”. Now we don’t have to hear about “reparations”.
Oh good grief. When did we go from “this toy isn’t appropriate for my child, I will toss it in the trash.” to “this toy is clearly sending a racist political message, I must call the media and raise a huge outcry of its underlying significance to socio-political relationships in the US”? I guess everyone wants to play the victim card, and everyone wants their 15 minutes. If mom hadn’t started hyperventilating, the kid would have never noticed. Just pitch the thing in the trash.
It is the drawing on instructions she is upset with. The whole is going crazy and paranoid.
My kids grew up with PLaymobil over Legos. Legos are awesome but the kids built castles, pirate ships, fairy palaces and a Victorian mansion. They are young adults and can’t bear the thought of us donating them, they want to hand them down to their kids.
If you toss the slave with it, do we avoid all the BS we are dealing with these days?
Or a Playmobil Abraham Lincoln to remove the shackle. :=)
Pirates weren’t racist. They enslaved anybody they could their hands on.
The Lego toys are racist! I guess the Lego company needs sensitivity training in order to produce Politically Correct toys.
That is just playmobil’s s&m playset.

Remember toys from the ‘50s? Actual chemical sets, guns, and things that were choking hazards and would kill us today? Yeah, even though I was born in the 1970s (Cue Bee Gees music), I remember damnit!
