A week after Pope Francis met Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk jailed for her refusal to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples, the Vatican on Friday suggested that she exploited the meeting to promote her views, denied that the pope fully supports her and cast doubt on her account of the encounter.
The Vatican later noted that the only audience Francis had at the gathering in Washington was with a former student of the pope, Yayo Grassi, an openly gay Argentine who along with his longtime partner and some friends met with Francis.
Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said in a statement that Grassi, "who had already met other times in the past with the pope, asked to present several friends to the pope during the popes stay in Washington, D.C."
A video posted online shows Grassi embracing the pope and introducing him to his partner, as well as an Argentine woman and some Asian friends.
The statements together seemed intended to distance the pope from Davis.
Davis spent nearly a week in jail after she defied a Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage in the United States. Last week, she said she had met Francis at the Nunciature, the Vatican's U.S. office, in Washington on Sept 24 during his U.S. visit, where she said he told her during a 15-minute meeting to stay strong.
"Just knowing that the pope is on track with what we're doing and agreeing, you know, it kind of validates everything, she told ABC News.
Reports of the meeting between Davis and the pope were taken by conservative groups as evidence that Francis fully supported her refusal to authorize same-sex marriages. Backers of such unions charged that the pope had been used by Davis.

Vatican assistant spokesman Rev. Thomas Rosica said Friday that Francis had not invited Davis to a gathering that included dozens of people and suggested that the meeting may have been manipulated by her and her lawyer.
So sayeth the pedophile papist.
Someone is not telling the truth here.
The above news tells us that :
Rev. Thomas Rosica said Friday that Francis had not invited Davis to a gathering that included dozens of people and suggested that the meeting may have been manipulated by her and her lawyer
But then, Breitbart reports otherwise. This is what they said:
___________________
The meeting between Pope Francis and Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis came at the invitation of a high-ranking Vatican official connected to the Secretariat of State of the Holy See acting on behalf of the Pope himself, Breitbart News has learned.
According to a person involved in arranging the meeting but who requested anonymity, the Vatican official called Robert Moynihan, editor of Inside the Vatican who is well known in Rome. The official asked Moynihan if he could help arrange a meeting while the Pope was in the United States.
Moynihan, who has connections in Kentucky, called a Kentucky businessman and Catholic activist who then called a well-known Catholic lawyer also from Kentucky. The lawyer, who is long-time friends with Davis lawyer Matt Staver, told Staver that he and Moynihan had to meet personally with Davis. The source told Staver, I cant tell you what its about but you have to trust me.
The group drove to Rowan County for a meeting with Davis in her office. The source said the men had to maneuver through a phalanx of press to get to her office.
They put her on the phone with the Vatican official, who then invited her to meet with the Pope.

so....Kim Davis made this all up? Somebody slipped some peyote into the incense burner and she just THOUGHT someone had flown her to Washington to meet The Pope?
The Pope Marx speaks with forked tongue.
The Pope is lying? That’s a SIN!
He needs to go to Confession immediately.
His Penance should be five Our Fathers, ten Hail Marys,
and ten I Quits.
Well, glad they cleared that up.
Someone is not telling the truth here.

So much misinformation.
The meeting with Davis was with many, many others. Not a one-on-one meeting, but a large group. Her part of the 15 minute meeting was a brief encounter. She exploited that.
This meeting with the gay fellow that fellow happens to be a long time friend of the pope from Argentina.
RE: The Pope is lying? Thats a SIN!
Nope, there are now conflicting stories reported by Los Angeles Times and Breitbart.
The former is reporting that Kim Davis was NOT invited while the latter is claiming that she was.
They can’t both be right.
This the LA Times lying.
The Vatican stated they had met her and also met a homosexual another time. They also stated they do not endorse her views.
Typical lying piece of crap media.
Did he bless their union?

So, let’s see ... The New York Times reports :
... her lawyer, Mathew D. Staver, said that Ms. Davis and her husband, Joe, were sneaked into the Vatican Embassy by car on Thursday afternoon. Francis gave her rosaries and told her to stay strong, the lawyer said. The couple met for about 15 minutes with the pope, who was accompanied by security guards, aides and photographers.
The above is now misinformation?
Now we have the L.A. Times reporting that this fellow meets the Pope and introduces him to his gay partner and nothing was reported about their conversation?
What is the L.A. Times trying to insinuate?
RE: They also stated they do not endorse her views.
Did the L.A. Times ask if the Pope endorses the gay man’s union? Or did he simply let it go at that?
Davis was invited by the nuncio, who is the Vatican diplomat in the US who theoretically represents the Pope, although now the Vatican is denying that the Pope really knew what had been arranged for him by the nuncio (who is perceived as conservative, and gave all of the seminarians and young religious attending the mass a copy of Cardinal Sarah’s wonderful book, God or Nothing). The nuncio, supposedly, was also responsible for the visit to the Little Sisters of the Poor. So far the Pope doesn’t seem to have denied that one - yet.
The nuncio, Vigano, will be 74 later this year. Look for him to have a sudden, early retirement.
Whattsa’ matta’ wid da Pope? Can’t he speak for himself? He had plenty to say when he spoke to Congress and the U.N. Why does he have to send his lackeys out to address this?
When Kimmy met Frankie: The Close Encounter!
This brief encounter is beginning to take on outsized and almost mythic significance. All the details are unclear, disputed, rejected or plain old made up.
How does this square with them confirming the meeting earlier?
Provably wanted to take an ex altar boy.
