GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Governor Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency for all 100 counties ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Joaquin -- a category 4 storm.
Were hoping for the best, but hope is not preparation nor is it a plan, Governor McCrory said. Ive ordered all state agencies to begin preparation for the severe weather, particularly flooding, that is going hit just about every corner of the state during the next few days."
McCrory asked that everyone stay away from flooded areas because most storm-related deaths are due to drowning.
Regardless of the impacts of Hurricane Joaquin, North Carolina has the potential for life-threatening flooding, cautioned Franklin Perry, the public safety secretary. We want everyone to remember to Turn around, dont drown.'

I guess I’ll tear the wrapper off my Lonesome Dove DVD pack that I picked up at the Walmart a while back.
I said I was saving it for a rainy day. ha.
Or put the cover on my pontoon and do some catfishing.
Me thinks both.
Or La-sha, the dash don’t be silent!
I remember a story on Charlotte Fox read “Winter Blast!” a while back.
It was accompanied by a picture of a patch of grass with a few pieces of scattered ice. Ridiculous.
Triad area here. I’ll be going to TN via Virginia this weekend rather ran by I40. I’ve been on rhat road when a big section of it fell into the river.
We’ve had rain for more than a week. Heavy rain on and off yesterday. Lots of limbs down. Very windy. With the saturated ground any substantial rain is going to mean flooding and trees down with power outages.
Our front yard was covered with broken tree limbs yesterday morning and a couple of pine trees fell in our wooded area late yesterday. It will be a mess. I have food, water and gas for the generator. As long as some pine tree doesn’t fall on the house we’re good.
Panic is bad but government-induced panic is worse.
I believe the issue is that the front from the hurricane is blocking an existing front and making it stall over the east coast.
I haven’t been watching the Weather Channel but I imagine after all the ‘Direct East Coast Hit’ hype of the past week on their web site they are secretly sorely disappointed.
Around Raleigh, we hadn’t had much rain up to last week, and the grass hadn’t grown much. Now (after so many days of constant rain) mine has shot up to the point its going to take a scythe to cut it.
Name them colored female and male names.
Just take a normal female name and put ‘isha’ on the end of it.
For males, take a normal name and put ‘tel’ on the end.
We could hope. Wash all those artsy fartsy yankee liberals away.
That mountain has been sliding into the river since the road was built in the 60's. I hope it has provided a lesson on where not to put a road.
Tom Terry is a great meteorologist here in Florida. He called it here on hurricane Charlie and went against the other forecasters to inform us Charlie was coming inland. It is great to have him here during severe weather. I am glad the hurricane is going out to sea. There could be some coastal flooding and large waves but nothing like what they have been predicting!
Our pines here in Raleigh with shallow roots and lots of height are not going to do too well with high winds and more rain. We have numerous ones near our house.
Concealed carry is suspended.
Mountain stream and river valleys don't do well in high rainfall events and steep watersheds provide little notice when they decide to flash flood.
The pic below is the Biltmore section of Asheville from several years ago.
Our pecan trees are heavy with pecans, so I expect we will lose more than the two already down. :(
