There was a day, not so long ago, when driving drunk was borderline socially acceptable. A cop was more likely to wag his finger — you naughty boy — than haul you off to jail.
No harm no foul, right?
But as the death toll mounted, society came to understand that every drunk on the road adds to the possibility — the probability — that innocent people will be hurt and killed. We finally came to see that drunken driving, even when the drunk made it home without denting a fender, is anything but a victimless crime.
Let’s be clear. Our outrage is not directed at people who own or carry a gun legally. We opposed the legalization two years ago of concealed carry in Illinois, but not for a minute do we believe concealed carry is the real problem. Those are not the people shooting up our city every night.
Just curious, since they know who’s NOT shooting up the city,
do they have any common factor as to who IS shooting up the city?
It isn’t the guns, dumbasses - it’s the low-life criminals you liberals coddle.
So if they acknowledge CC is not “the real problem” why the {expletive} do they oppose it? Are they psychopaths? Do they enjoy the thought of their fellow citizens walking around as (relatively) defenseless victims? Do they like the idea of criminals emboldened by the knowledge their victims are disarmed? SMDH...
Contrary to liberal belief, we all still live in a very dangerous and unpredictable world so I think I’ll just continue clinging to my gun.
You liberals created the entitlement class of predator animals roaming the streets of our cities.

I looked up the history of gun control in the US.
all I could find that really mattered in the 1800’s was

Georgia passes a law banning handguns. The law is ruled unconstitutional and thrown out.
Other than that, all the nonsense started in the 20th century. Very much starting in the late 1960s.
And, SHAZZAM!....violent crime is DOWN!

Have they tried making murder illegal? That would cover any weapon and really take the wind out of those bad guys sails.
The guns are not doing anything. Street savages are doing the killing.
Conservatives should mimic the immigration debate: Make illegal guns legal!
Since most of the time the perpetrators are driving by while shooting, maybe the problem is not guns, but cars.

Actually, I would argue that they were always here. The natural consequences of their bad choices and inability to provide for themselves would normally limit their population to a small, ever decreasing size; the liberals have subsidized the growth and stability of their population by paying them to have more and more children, and by giving them cradle to grave welfare.
Not many Vikings shooting up Chicago, then?

Or maybe I’m confusing cause and effect.
Try looking at the mid- to late-1860s, when the newly-freed slaves (which is to say, CITIZENS) were denied the right to own firearms in the former Confederacy. That is a large part of the reason that we have the 14th Amendment.
Try also looking at the Sullivan law, passed in NYC in 1911 (or thereabouts) - aimed at eliminating the ownership of guns by the “swarthy” types - Italians and Eastern Europeans.
Gun control in this country has its post-colonial origins in RACE or racial notions. It has morphed into a means of controlling everyone, not just the “untermenschen” that were targeted (no pun intended) by prior laws. Now we are ALL untermenschen, unless we are employed by the authoritarians.
