There was a day, not so long ago, when driving drunk was borderline socially acceptable. A cop was more likely to wag his finger — you naughty boy — than haul you off to jail.
No harm no foul, right?
But as the death toll mounted, society came to understand that every drunk on the road adds to the possibility — the probability — that innocent people will be hurt and killed. We finally came to see that drunken driving, even when the drunk made it home without denting a fender, is anything but a victimless crime.

So, the obvious answer is gun amnesty.
I believe the Sullivan Act was 1927. Prior to that there were many laws in the South specifically to disarm freed slaves.

Whoever wrote the article is almost there - if everybody was thought to be packing, my dear, gun crime would go down.
I know if I were running a liquor store in Chicagoland, I’d have a sign above the door saying, “Yes, we are armed. The cameras work. So do the remote control shotguns.”

You could give virtually every current legal gun owner (or most law-abiding citizens) an "illegal" gun, and the crime rate wouldn't budge an iota.
It's not the "illegal" guns that cause the violence, it's the kind of person who is pulling the trigger that causes the violence.
Just make sure to also have a glove and a ball...then the bat doesn’t look so suspicious (unless you have a bunch of rusty nails sticking out of the end).
They aren’t illegal guns, they are undocumented guns.

Well, at least those in Group B seem to know the 4th rule of gun safety: finger off the trigger until the sight is on the target.
