ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) Political newcomer Ben Carson raised more than $20 million in the past three months to fuel his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, his campaign said Wednesday, a haul of campaign cash that shatters records and sets a new bar for his GOP rivals.
As other campaigns scrambled to bring in final donations before the end of the fundraising period at midnight, Carson's senior team celebrated its massive haul at its suburban Washington campaign headquarters.
Two dozen staffers shared a red, white and blue chocolate cake topped with frosted numbers "$31,000,000" the total amount the retired neurosurgeon's campaign has raised since he launched his White House bid in May.
"You know, the pundits all said that we would never be able to mount a national campaign for financial reasons, but here we are approaching 600,000 donations," Carson told The Associated Press while campaigning in New Hampshire. "The people have gotten involved, and that's something I think they probably never anticipated."
The day was a culmination of an extraordinary run for Carson, who tapped the wave of anti-establishment sentiment to raise $12 million in September alone, said campaign manager Barry Bennett.

With hard money.
Where's his Superpac money? Or, do they have any?
Rumors are Carson raised more than Jeb. We’ll know in a few hours.
While I think Carson is a good man, I also think he would be a disaster as president.
He’s going to need a lot more than that.
The GOPe pumped in the money to help him split votes with Trump so Jeb can win.
I don’t think he’d make it to President. The Damnacrats would make mincemeat of him in the general...
Wait until people find out about his immigration plan.
Yes, but the media and the GOPe would love to get him past the convention. Winning with him isn’t the goal. Freezing out Trump or Cruz is their goal.
Those are my sentiments as well.
But he certainly has a following. $20mil in hard money this quarter is significant. It means his campaign can stay in the race through March 1st.
But if he doesn't have a substantial Superpac supportive of his efforts, he'll be unable to buy the necessary air time.
It's very likely this GOP primary won't be decided until California on June 7th, 2016.
LOL
By the time of the General, any candidate there will have spent, or had spent on their behalf...$1.5 billion.
Obama bid in 2012 came in at $1.2bil.
When I see that kind of money, I start to wonder where it came from. Friends of Carlotta? “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plad” reference.
Means, the diabolical friends of the GOPe?
Wouldn’t put it past them.
If Trump wasn’t in this race, I don’t think Carson would be getting any attention AT ALL.
The media talks about him to deflate Trump. That’s my take. The money, that seems a bit fishy.
He isn’t all that IMO. At best he should be at about 1/3rd Trumps standing.
Where is his support visually? I seen nothing in the way of big crowds. Where’s his big interviews?
The guy is like the ghost of elections past, and there’s the big money and the supposed polls.
Very strange >IMO.
Carson is too mushy for me...Hillary would love to sink her teeth into him...he’s just not cut out for POTUS. We need a real fighter...bold and solid conservative which he isn’t.
He was on-track for less than $13 million before he dissed the muzzies.
But if he doesn't have a substantial Superpac supportive of his efforts, he'll be unable to buy the necessary air time.Maybe Cruz's superPAC will give him money like they did for Carly.
The FEC is asking why would Keep The Promise (Ted Cruz PAC) be giving money to Carly For America (Carly Fiorina PAC)?I dunno, because she's ahead in the polls? Maybe they want to invest in someone not stuck at #6 for weeks.
They go to spam now.
I believe I got them also.
I usually wind up getting something form just about all of them.
Haven’t gotten anything from team Trump yet.
My problem with Cruz isn’t so much him, although there are some things that bother me. It’s his chances in the primaries.
Cruz is seen as a traditional Conservative. While that’s good for you and me, to Democrats and moderate Republicans, it isn’t.
Those reading this will remember that traditional Conservatives are seen as far right wing malcontents, some even calling them “terrorists”. They are to the GOPe and to some of the big names in Washington, D. C. Cruz can’t overcome that label to get votes from these two groups.
If Trump wasn’t there, there would be a war against Cruz. So under no circumstances do I see him winning the nomination. Either Trump does outright, or him being eliminated Cruz becomes public enemy number one and he’s knocked out.
Cruz could not withstand the withering attack Trump has received, and win the nomination.
We are left with two alternatives. We stand behind Trump and hope for the best, or we trash Trump, watch Cruz lose to one of the usual suspects, and head into the General Election with another McCain/Romney.
That’s essentially it in a nutshell.
I also think Trump has the business acumen we need right now. If I were trying to think up the best sort of candidate to address our nation’s financial situation right now, I’m not sure who better to address it.
The super pack is ‘National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee’, which has been around for at least two years. Their claimed numbers don’t seem to add up.
