While there are still scenarios that would take Hurricane Joaquin out to sea, the possibility of the hurricane reaching the Eastern United States coast is gaining merit. Hurricane Joaquin is rapidly intensifying.

And thanks to Christie handed the election to Obama.
You owe me a new laptop lol.
Just remember “weather is bad” and you’ll do fine.
you’re KIDDING!!! That’s crazy :)
;)
I tried to be low-key.
Sandy was a cat 4.
That’s mom. She took care of us after pop died young. Hard life, want her to enjoy her late years.
Lol.
Here's my boat-
FIL (96).
Dad (89).
MIL (89).
Mom (85).
3 out of the 4 show no signs of going to their reward anytime soon. (And I'm thankful for that).
I'm stuck here in Enemy territory for the foreseeable future, it seems.
“Early on October 29, Sandy curved north-northwest and then moved ashore near Brigantine, New Jersey, just to the northeast of Atlantic City, as a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds.”
‘Twasn’t showers!
lol! I loved NYC in my 20s and 30s. Nothing but gals everywhere and 24/7 could do whatever you wanted.
I’m older now and it’s lost its appeal.
We are both stuck :)
What made Sandy devastating was its size (1100 mi across, the largest recorded Atlantic Hurricane) and that it was stalled in position by two high pressure systems. Even the storm surge was significantly lower than that which hit the Gulf Coast with Ike or Katrina.
However, the area was not set up for a storm of that intensity, and there was a lot of high-dollar real estate built on barrier islands. New York also has lots of infrastructure which is below ground and subject to flooding.
I'm not minimizing the effect, just saying the storm intensity was not high enough for a CAT4 (be thankful, the damage would have been far worse).

When the Moon is in the right place to make spring tides and the hurricane has a 500 mile span, lots of flooding follows in flood zones. That's what hit New York and New Jersey, lots of water. When you live less than ten feet above mean sea level along a coast, you are at risk. There are many places beyond the Northeast that are susceptible. New Orleans is another story. It's below mean sea level. They have a death wish.
Sandy hit just before high tide on a full moon night.
I seriously doubt it would go that far inland.
I would never live near the coast and only a few feet above sealevel. My Sister and her family of five lived in Ft. Walton Bch. when one came right over them.
My parents lived around 30 miles inland on high land and told them to come stay with them but not to bring anyone else as they only had one bath and two bedrooms. It was a large house so the rooms were large but still not many of them.
Well Ann brought her family and her next door neighbors.
When they got there they constantly used the toilet for urinating and then would flush it. Within an hour the tank was empty. Nothing you can do about it tho as you can’t just put them out in the hurricane.
So who is taking bets on what or who would flush out of the subway stations if they are flooded?
You might be surprised. We often get rain and wind from these storms-and we really need the rain here—we’ve been below normal for the last 3 or four years. Lake Travis which is right out my window has been way down for the last 3 or 4 years. We got enough rain from the right direction in the spring to get it back up to almost level with what it should be.
The last several weeks have been dry though, and of course it is still hot here, so we’ve lost some more due to evaporation.
Same folks who can’t say where the storm will hit tomorrow say what we exhale will kill the planet?
Shoooor...
Haha. They’re still everywhere in the city...I’m sad every year when summer ends...there’s so much to ‘see’ in the city during the summer...
