Kentucky clerk Kim Davis met privately with Pope Francis, Vatican confirms

Pope Francis met with Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis during the pope’s visit to the United States, the Vatican confirmed on Wednesday morning.

Rev. Manuel Dorantes, a spokesman for the Vatican, said to The Washington Post, “I do not deny that the meeting took place, but I have no comments to add.”

The meeting between Davis, who went to jail for six days after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and the pope was announced late Tuesday by Liberty Counsel, a religious freedom nonprofit that is representing the elected Rowan County clerk in her ongoing legal struggles.

Liberty Counsel said in a news release that Davis and her husband, Joe, met privately with Francis at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington last Thursday. The pair chatted about bravery, then hugged and exchanged promises of prayer, according to the news release.

The pope thanked Davis for her “courage,” according to the press release, and told her to “stay strong.” The news release also said Francis “presented Kim and Joe Davis each with a Rosary that he personally blessed.”

Mat Staver, Davis’s attorney and the founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, told the New York Times that photos of the meeting were expected soon from the Vatican. When asked why he delayed the announcement until now, Staver said: “We didn’t want the pope’s visit to be focused on Kim Davis.”

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Staver’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment to The Washington Post. The Archdiocese of Washington declined to comment on the matter.

there may have been a hold on releasing the information as some are viewing Davis as too controversial. But at times the media may have used the meeting of the Pope and Davis as a foothold for more controversy. Hear she finally changed her voter registration from democrat to Republican.

Hear she finally changed her voter registration from democrat to Republican

******************

It will be interesting to see how she does if she chooses to run for re-election. She won the general
election with 53.2% of the vote and won the democrat primary by only .6% of the vote against two opponents.

As the Pope is a Jesuit, nuanced is a good word. :)

The Pope did a surprise visit to the Little Sisters of the Poor.

These were subtle messages to Obama — that his legislation and lawsuits are in error.

I think you are mistaken. The Catholic Church is very conservative.

Some Catholics are liberal, but the Church isn’t.

And how do the Liberals in the Church reconcile themselves with the contradictions?

A larger percentage are probably Latinos who would vote for a Democrat even if he was the devil incarnate. So I guess I answered my own question.

Why be subtle when such a serious issue is at hand?

Maybe he is trying to be everything to everyone but that doesn’t work well when the issues are so important. These are core issues to the Catholic church.

There is no indication that he supported the little sisters or Kim Davis in his meetings with Obama.

Shameful. It should be the Christian priority to let Obama know that his views on Christianity are anti-Christ in nature.

Aren't there any Christians in the pope's "posse" that could clue him in to your last sentence?

These issues don't seem to be that important to the leader of Catholicism.

He seemed to be more interested in being liked by Obama, they agree on many other issues which are counter to Conservatism and freedom.

Exactly. Playing politics?

And what about Capitalism being bad? Capitalism in the United States has brought more prosperity to more people than in all of human history. Including the massive numbers of poor people from other countries who come here illegally.

We talk about about which Iphone we are going to buy or what the Kardashians are doing today while the people are starving to death in North Korea under Communism. People in the poorest neighborhoods in the United States live better than most of the population in the world.

Clearly he must have not been referring to the United States. Or maybe he was blaming the US for the plight of the poor in the world. Who knows. But it doesn’t make sense.

For a moment I thought a video was taken of her meeting with the Pope. That wasn’t it.

“Liberals don’t mind when the Pope meets with prisoners, rapists, murderers... with every type of sexual deviant on the planet.
But to meet with a Christian conservative? Oh Lord, that can’t be... the horror... the horror.”

Really says it all. And why the secrecy? Are Christians being forced “into the closet,” even the pope? That’s a scary thought.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be misleading. I should have explained it better.

Here's the blurb below the video for more info:

Published on Sep 30, 2015

During his much-publicized visit to the United States, Pope Francis had a clandestine meeting Kentucky County Clerk, Kim Davis.
The pope is said to have expressed support for Davis' decision to refuse to issue same-sex marriage licenses despite the Supreme Court effectively legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide during the alleged Sept. 24 meeting at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C. Davis is an Apostolic Christian and says she never thought she would meet the pope, and continued by saying "Who am I to have this rare opportunity? I am just a County Clerk who loves Jesus and desires with all my heart to serve him".

They always have to throw in the bolded part despite the fact that the USSC cannot and does not make law.

I was always surprised to see all through this that Davis and her attorney never seemed to use the most likely defense for her actions:

Kentucky law states that marriage is only between those of opposite sexes.

She was following her state's law which the Supreme Court can not abolish with a decision they make.

Ha Ha Ha, BIG MEDIA!

All morning, the local Miami media was reporting this as if it were a LIE. "No photos of the meeting" was the mantra--as if Kim Davis were a LIAR.

Of course, every report from the Executive Branch of the government is treated sacrosanct.

Well, they can always say the Vatican lied as well.
