Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad must leave office or face being turfed out by force, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said Tuesday, warning of stepped up support for Syrian rebel groups.
Jubeir rejected Russian calls for an international coalition to help Assad fight the Islamic State group, and said the Syrian leader's best option would be to step down.
"There is no future for Assad in Syria, with all due respect to the Russians or anyone else," Jubeir told reporters in New York after meetings with Saudi Arabia's allies.
"There are two options for a settlement in Syria. One option is a political process where there would be a transitional council," he said, describing this as the "preferred option."
"The other option is a military option, which also would end with the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power," Jubeir warned.
"This could be a more lengthy process and a more destructive process, but the choice is entirely that of Bashar al-Assad."

Now we know why U.S. had a policy was to remove Assad, and why the U.S. war on ISIS is a joke. Even though ISIS was butchering everyone and certainly Christians.
ISIS is Saudi Arabia's proxy army much like the French Foreign Legion is for France.
The Saudi leadership is flipping out because they know that Russia, Iran, China and Syria are about to defeat ISIS and have a beachhead in Iraq.
With this pronouncement the days of the House of Saud are numbered.
We know Obama is playing games behind our back.
Saudi Arabia should have ceased to exist after 9/11.
But Bush and the king are lovers. so we went into Iraq instead.
If Russia cleans up ISIS quickly the world will know 0dunga was FAKING HIS ASSAULT ON ISIS. How embarrassing, but then again THAT is what 0dunga is in office for!
YEA BABY!!! NUKE MECCA VLAD!!!!!
Get your popcorn ready.
I look forward to the Saudis trying to push the Russians out.
“With this pronouncement the days of the House of Saud are numbered”.
Who would take them out?
That could put into motion a very unfortunate string of events for the Saudis.
The article says that the “Saudis are supporting moderate rebels”. LOL - anyone seen any of them lately?
Well, what are they gonna do about it? American parents aren’t going to watch their kids being drafted to fight for the house of saud. Guess the wahhabist scumbags are kinda screwed.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
I see Russia chasing ISIS into Western Iraq. Iran will come from the East. Iraq is working with Russia, Iran and Syria.
My bet is that Iran will take most of Iraq, if not all with the help of Russian military. T
hen Iran will invade Saudi Arabia with the military support of Russia.
Russia will want the cheap Oil and Iran will reward Russia for helping take Saudi Arabia.
So, SA wants to take on the Russian military.
NOW we know what those S300s are for.
The Saudi coalition consists of 12 countries, one of which has nukes (not the US). They already have an assembled fighting force in theater.
Things could really go sideways there in the near future.
What an interesting article in the Chinese sense. KSA appears to have their own agenda. Rather strange for a country to worry so much about another despotic regime when they are surrounded by warring factions.
Saudi Arabia vs. Russia? Go for it!
Sure. They are coming here on Kerry’s refugee program.
Exactly!
There are no such “modern” rebels.
It’s all a bunch of bull.
The House Of Saud could fall fairly easily.
