Georgia's parole board declined Tuesday to commute the death sentence of Kelly Renee Gissendaner even after Pope Francis called for a halt to her execution.
Gissendaner, who was sentenced to death for the 1997 murder of her husband at the hands of her lover, is set to receive a lethal injection at 7 p.m. ET.
Pope Francis, who called for a ban on the death penalty during his visit to the United States last week, asked the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles to spare her life, through a letter written by a local archbishop.
"While not wishing to minimize the gravity of the crime for which Ms. Gissendander has been convicted, and while sympathizing with the victims, I nonetheless implore you, in consideration of the reasons that have been expressed to your board, to commute the sentence to one that would better express both justice and mercy," Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano wrote.

Interesting point of view for one whose organization has never admitted the Inquisition or burning at the stake were bad ideas. Oh, well.
I like pepperoni on my pizza.
yep
Guess this is her (be certain you want to click, though):
Maybe if they dissect her, and sell her organs for medical research, with US Government support, the Pope won’t mind so much...
Failing to require ultimate accountability from even the sleaziest of murderers disrespects the lives of innocent people everywhere.
Her last meal included diet frosted lemonade. I guess she wanted to make sure she didn’t look fat in her prison gown on the gurney...
and I’m not hearing much outrage over the murder & butchering of unborn innocents for profit
A call from the WH to Governor Deal is in the making.
“Separation of church and state!” Remember, liberals?
“There comes a time in the history of every people when they become so pathologically soft and tender that they actually side with those elements of their society that harms them; i.e. criminals”-F. Nietzsche
Devil Pope.
Before you going judging too quickly, ponder the actions of God and death of the Egyptian first born.
Consider also, John the Baptist and Isaiah as worthy prophets of Jesus Christ.
Finally, perhaps you missed Pope St. John Paul II and his many, many apologies, as well as Pope Benedict XVI.
Please also consider there was no apology for the executions of Catholics by Henry VIII, nor recompense for the destruction of Catholic buildings.
As Robert A. Heinlein would have said, “MYOB, Pope.”
Curious... Doesn't this Pope realize that without the death penalty, there wouldn't be Christianity
I think that was taken care of back in 2000, when Pope John Paul II did his long on behalf of the Church, I do apologize for the abuses done in the name of the Church which would include the inquisition and the burning at the stake.
Hopefully, he will have the same response Texas Guv’nuhs have had since we got rid of Ma Richards - Thank you for your input, now we gonna input that needle...
was this death penalty case the object of the pope’s political rhetoric when he was here ???
4,000 innocent babies died today ...innocent, not guilty of murder, no due process... no decision of the death penalty for any crime other than they were alive and growing due to a sex act committed willing by their female parent ...where’s the pope’s tears ???
What sentence could better reflect that consideration than the present sentence? It sounds as though the Court correctly met the stated criteria.
What do you mean?
