Reminds me of my close friend from high school. He got shipped off to Vietnam a year later, and I wrote him several times over the two years he was there, and he told me no one else had written him but me. Not even his high school sweetheart who found someone else while he was gone and fighting for his country. He finally made it home, Too bad it was in a coffin with an American flag draped over it. He was killed week before he was to return to the states. I still think about him from time, to time, although it seems like another lifetime now. He was 19 years old.
:-(
I will never understand the scorn for the military.
In 1985 my youngest was a junior in high school and a teacher made him remove a U.S Army book cover.
I was furious,as was his father, but my son didn’t want us contacting the teacher or school so we let it go.
By the way he went into the Marines a year later.
..
Very sad.
Bless him. That war took a heavy toll on my generation in many different ways.
Yes, with the ‘ranks’ of VFW, AL etc open to draft dodgers et al ( The Sons of Legion and Mens Auxiliary of VFW) allow children of eligible Vets and now Parents of eligible Vets to become members.
I do have ‘mixed’ emotions about this but it does kind of bother me when a ‘Son of the Legion or VFW Aux’ dude is MY age, sitting next to me in the club....some, the same that had ‘better things’ to do while laughing at those of us that served.
Military is the hardest job you can do, especially if liberals are ‘in charge’.
