Obama wants 1 million Americans learning Chinese by 2020

President Obama announced a new initiative Friday aimed at having 1 million American schoolchildren learn Mandarin Chinese over the next five years.

The commitment by Obama would see the number of American students learning Mandarin quintuple; 200,000 students across the country are studying Mandarin today. Obama framed the initiative as a chance for the countries to learn more about each other.

"If our two countries are going to do more together around the world, then speaking each other's languages so we can understand each other is a good start," Obama said.

‘Change’ is the creed of Obama for the US.I have no love or desire to be friends with any person, man women or child , who would sell out the US for a pot of such changes. The same goes for the Pope as he seems to be a wanabee US changer. China is buying up vast tracts of deserted Detroit, waiting for the day when Chinese capital revitalizes the city and returns it to its manufacturing greatness. Of course, the owners, bosses and a lot of the workers will be Chinese. We have to be prepared.

When I was in Hong Kong and also on Taiwan, all the girls spoke fluent English. So did the bartenders. Don’t ask me how I know. I never learned Chinese but learned a skoshi (sp?) bit of pidgin Japanese while we were there.

China is a world power. Why learn Spanish? Is Mexico a world power?

To be honest, by 2020, or at least 2025, voice recognition software will probably have progressed to the point at which we will be able to do very good real-time translation of language, and anyone/everyone who wants to communicate between cultures will be able to do it. It would be a very big market for travelers and business people, and where there is a market, innovation is likely to find a solution.

The United States of America has a primary difference between itself and all other nations, past and present.

The difference is the rule of law, with it's foundation the US Constitution, limiting what the rulers can do, and Capitalism.

In order to disassemble the Unites States, they must first destroy the Constitution, then the very engine of out economic success.
