Donald Trump earned a rare rebuke from a conservative audience on Friday after criticizing Sen. Marco Rubio, who as emerged as his prime sparring partner in recent days.
Speaking to a social conservative crowd at the Values Voters Summit, where Rubio spoke earlier in the day, Trump was met with a wave of boos after calling his Republican rival a “clown” in his speech.

Trump makes an outrageous statement, people boo, and then they think a little bit...and then they realize that Trump was right.
And then Trump wins them over.

You’re wrong. There’s no way that an audience - who showed up for Trump - doesn’t know that Rubio is soft on amnesty.
That is HIS audience.

That is my take also. How could any conservative support Rubio after his lies and deceit regarding amnesty?

The applause line came less than a minute later. They are eating it up.
Trump has to attack, when he is attacked, to knock the other candidate off the perch. Trump wants to win!

That was NOT an audience that showed up just for Trump. It was the Values Voters Summit--not at all a typical Trump crowd--and they came to hear a number of the candidates: Cruz, Rubio, et al.
I think there’s almost no chance that Trump will win the nomination. His own mouth will undo him.

I agree that they were probably booing Rubio.
It was clear to me before that...given the venue. This was not a rally of just Trump supporters. That would have been different. This was a social conservative forum for all the candidates. It was a bad bad mistake to say that in this setting to this audience.
And not only did this crowd like Rubio, they cheered Jindal when he called Trump a narcissist. Trump has done the best job of reading the mood of the voters over all, but this was a tone deaf clank.
The Trumpanzees can ignore this reality at their own risk.....because this was clearly another installment of the "look at that face" meme. This is going to have some kind of cumulative effect.
They gave Rubio a standing oh at the end, and they gave Jindal, who called Trump a narcissist, a standing oh at the end. This is an overly polite crowd.....and they did NOT like his clown comment.
This was not a Trump rally.

I actually didn't say either was okay, or not okay. I just said there is plenty of evidence that this crowd was NOT booing Rubio.......you know, when you have intentionally misunderstand the arguments against you, you're losing.
Actually, no. If they boo you, they're booing your statement.
If they applaud and cheer you, they agree with you.
