Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum vowed Friday to pursue immigration policies that protect American workers, while warning voters that some of his GOP rivals have embraced a much softer approach to the issue. Mr. Santorum, the runner-up in the 2012 Republican nomination battle, urged the crowd that converged on a hotel in Washington, D.C., for the annual Values Voter Summit to recognize that a couple of the speakers before him Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz have previously supported amnesty for illegal immigrants. You have a lot of people that come up here and talk about how tough they are, but they actually support amnesty. The speaker just before me running for president, he will tell you how tough he is, Mr. Santorum said, alluding to Mr. Cruz. He offered an amendment to allow people to stay in this country indefinitely. To me, that is amnesty. Mr. Santorum has struggled to gain a foothold in national polling and is running near the back of the pack. With that as a backdrop, the 57-year-old has staked a lot in the immigration debate. He also has touted the conservative record he compiled in Congress, including authoring legislation aimed at changing the leadership of the Iranian government. Mr. Santorum served in the House from 1991 to 1995 and in the Senate from 1995 to 2007 when he lost his re-election bid to Democrat Bob Casey Jr. by a 59 percent to 41 percent margin.

“If hed use the office of president to ban things from the internet, he was not a small government, limited powers kind of guy.”
Got that right.
The president doesn’t actually have the power to ban anything from the internet. To do so would require us to switch to a state-run internet, nationalizing all the ISPs like China, Iran, or North Korea. That’s the only feasible way for content to be managed by a central authority. Even then enforcement would be very difficult.
Ted Cruz - When it comes to immigration reform, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has made it abundantly clear what he opposes: giving citizenship to people who broke the law to come here. What has not been as evident is what he supports: legal status for millions of people here already, while making it easier for immigrants to come here through the front door. Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.
Donald Trump - So far, his stance sounds good to me, and I would hope he holds to it. He says, “We need strong borders; we need a wall. Citizenship for illegal immigrants is a GOP suicide mission. 351,000 illegal aliens are in our prisons; costing us $1.1 Billion. Anchor babies were NEVER the intent of the 14th Amendment. Invite foreigners graduating from college to stay in US. Put a triple-layered fence & predator drones on the Mexican border. Control the borders; even legal immigration should be difficult. Limit new immigration; focus on the people already here.”

“Trump supports an expedited import of illegals back into the country for the good ones.”
Little deceptive word twisting, that. He said the ones that could come back were the ones who could help the country, which is the traditional way all nations arrange immigration, including Mexico.
He does want eventual amnesty. Cruz is officially dead to me now after his pathetic Pope worship article yesterday and this.
I posted a few articles a while ago on FR regarding his views on amnesty (anybody can use google to find them). Folks were in an uproar over it and it got the mods attention to qualify my posts before they could be submitted for about a week until more FReepers started reading/posting the same quotes I had found.
It’s a horrible time to be a conservative on this planet!

No not at all and you are ignoring the point about the expedited amnesty back into the country.
They really need to exit the country and get on the back of the existing quota line.
Cruz is not in favor of amnesty for illegals, and to my knowledge, he never has been. He is/was in favor of increasing the quota on H1B visas, but a few thousand more IT techs on work visas from India are the least of our immigration worries.
Thank you for the post. I did want to learn more about the issues you raised.
Heidi Cruz’s work history may not be of interest to anyone else, but it is of great interest to me. Since when are we NOT interested in people with a resume like that, who are close to power?
As for handing out any perks whatsoever, to adults or kids, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell I’d be doing anything other than a inspection tour and working my ass off to send those kids back home at their parent’s expense.
If that meant hiring attorneys in their country to cover our expenses, so be it. Let folks know loud and clear what the results will be for participating in this type of thing in the future.
This is the type of thing we discourage, not encourage.
For those who don’t know, many of these kids came from homes that were supporting them just fine prior to the effort to bring them here.
Mexico and other participating nations should be taken to court to pay for our expenses related to this imposition.
Teddy bears? Seriously? Good freaking grief some of our folks have a very strange set of priorities.
“They really need to exit the country and get on the back of the existing quota line.”
“exit the country”
That is what Trump means when he says, “They all have to go.”
Do your really believe that Trump has in mind that they will leave one day and all return the next day?
Oh okay, so you don’t support them leaving the nation and being vetted before re-entering.
Good to know.

Please stop taking everything you read on the Internet to be the whole truth. Read the candidates’ own words and examine their past actions.
FRegards.
Sounds like he was “dead to you” from the outset.
On Gang of 8:
Ted Cruzs amendment 3, which would prohibit anyone who had been undocumented for any period of time ever from becoming a United States citizen in the future.
Not “once your deported, if you come back legally, it’s all ok.” Not “hey you’re not a criminal, really, so here’s your papers.” Not “you are just doing the jobs no one else will do”.
NO citizenship EVER.
Crap, sorry that was supposed to say:
NOT “once YOU’RE...”
Always edit, boys and girls!
Cruz wants to deport DREAMers:
http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5792886
In 2012 Cruz even said Romney was too soft on the issue and that Romney should back deportation.
Come on. Don't post that nonsense to me.
I support them leaving the country and being vetted when they get on the back of the line with no increase in quotas.
You’re not happy. You’re trashing Trump.
Be honest with us.
You aren’t happy they’re being sent back to their nation of origin and are being vetted before returning.
No need to be ashamed of it if that’s what you truly believe.
Evidently it is. I seen no congratulations to Trump for supporting this.
Why is that? This is how you show your pleasure at them being made to return to their home nation and submit to a proper vetting?
No really.
Correction:
Last line...
NOT really...
Id let them back legally, they have to come through a legal system, and Id make that system much faster, much greater.
We all ready have a process where they can come back in legally. It's called the existing legal immigration quota line.
We don't need these former illegals being "expedited" much "faster" and in "much greater" numbers.
This really shouldn't be a controversial criticism of Trump's remarks here on FreeRepublic.
Youre not happy. Youre trashing Trump.
Be honest with us. You arent happy theyre being sent back to their nation of origin and are being vetted before returning.
What part of my above comment are you too dumb to understand.
I want them to get the hell out of the country.
I would prefer that they never return.
If they are to return I prefer that they get on the end of the quota line.
I don't want any increase in quotas and I don't want them expedited back into the country.
Is that really too hard for you to understand?
