I can’t help but feel that there is something behind this. After being so stubborn for so long. It must be unseemly to the GOPe that one of their guys would have to depend on Democrat members to keep him in power. Perhaps they don’t like the optics. Strange. Why now?

Boehner is Roman Catholic...
Something happened in that meeting...something powerful.
On Fox, one of the guests said Boehner tried very hard to get JPII to speak to Congress when he visited the U.S., but it didn't pan out, so when he was successful with Francis, he became overly-overwhelmed, and decided to back out on this "high" note.

The reason he gave was the exact reason he needed to step down. He was afraid of getting dirty and damaging his reputation. He had no appetite for a fight. Majority in both houses of Congress and they can’t even prevent the mad mullahs from getting nukes. Good riddance.

Probably. But THIS one will be gone. One less “If elected I will work with President Obama” liberal.

So WHY is he leaving?
Good news that he is, but that he’s resigning his seat entirely and not just the Speakership requires answering _why_.

How do you get worse than 100% obama support and 100% attacks on conservatives/America’s values?
To: abb
This must explain all his crying.

He found out he doens't have the support to keep the job unless he can get the Dims to vote for him.

So WHY is he leaving? Good news that he is, but that hes resigning his seat entirely and not just the Speakership requires answering _why_. Have any modern era former Speakers retained their seats?
To: Fury
Does he have the votes? No, but I'm throwing it out there for two reasons. First, imagine West on all the Sunday talk shows as the face of conservatism. I'd bet that would cost the Slave Party at least 10% of the black vote if not more and put an end to all the bashing. We'd finally have a guy in there who would make clear to the public the disaster that has been the entitlement state.
Second, to nominate an effective conservative representative as Speaker is to lose the benefit of the conservative in that former position. To nominate an outsider as Speaker ADDS to the number of conservatives in the house.

Good morning.
McCarthy is no better.
You are correct, but remember McCarthy has to take a vote for the Chair in January.
Methinks he'll get beat by Webster, Gomert or a host of other conservatives.
