When Donald Trump walked on to the presidential debate stage on August 6, he walked into a trap.
Bret Baier began with a question designed to make sure every one of its viewers knew that Trump, and Trump alone, was refusing to rule out a campaign as an independent. He asked broadly if "anyone on stage" with that view would raise his hand, and once Trump did so, Baier hammered his heresy home: "Mr. Trump to be clear, youre standing on a Republican primary debate stage. The place where the RNC will give the nominee the nod. And that experts say an independent run would almost certainly hand the race over to Democrats and likely another Clinton."
Minutes later, Megyn Kelly informed the audience that Trump was a sexist. "Youve called women you dont like 'fat pigs,' 'dogs,' 'slobs,' and 'disgusting animals,'" she said. "Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?"
Then, Chris Wallace suggested that Trump was full of it on his marquee issue pointing out that Trump had "repeatedly said" he had evidence that the Mexican government is intentionally sending criminals across the border, but "refused or declined" to share it. "Why not use this first Republican presidential debate to share your proof with the American people?" Wallace asked....

You name one other candidate that has gotten even half of the attention to key conservative ideas. Jindal? Bush? Cruz? Fiorina? Walker? The list goes on with the remaining incompetent boobs. Cruz—let's see, he apologizes for his vote on the Corker amendment and for pushing the TPA, but still remains resolute on the need to increase H1-Bs by a minimum of 500%. Cruz has only ever erred on the side of what his CFR/Goldman Sachs wife wants from him—that's a strong example of a man, for sure.
Give us peons your sage insight as to who you bless.
You assume much.
Agreed.
So, what was Baier expecting Trump to do .. throw up his hands .. and say, in that case, I guess I’ll just give up and go home ..??????????????????????????????
I’m getting so sick and tired of FOX pumping everything in for Jeb Bush. They were not so friendly to his brother .. but they are falling all over themselves because of Jeb ..?? I don’t get it.
I think that would be the end of the GOP.
Trump would run as an independent, win, and the party would collapse.
The party needs to be very careful this year.
Trump is right about a lot of very important issues. Issues which the Republican Party has been out to lunch on, for far far too long.
ditto
Ah, okay. VOX is considered reliable??
So some liberal news sources are okay to cite, but others are not depending on which candidate you prefer?
The party won’t need to take him out. He’ll do himself in.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the angst he’s caused the GOP establishment and the George Wills of the world. And he’s done a great service by bonking the execrable Jeb. I’ve even held open the possibility that he might make a decent candidate and even president.
But no longer. He’s a buffoon. His act is stale. Almost none of the 60+ percent that don’t support him now will move their support to him when their favored candidates fall by the wayside. Once the candidates are down to 5 or 6 his abysmal grasp of policy and political philosophy will become even more apparent. Could you really imagine him going head-to-head with Ted Cruz on judicial appointments? Marco Rubio on foreign policy?
My guy is Cruz and I’m with him all the way. If I had to guess who’ll win, I’d say Rubio. Could be Fiorina but I sure hope not. But it will NOT be Trump. The sooner Trump supporters recognize that, the sooner they can back a serious candidate.
Hank
They have never before dealt with a candidate so rich that he can tell them to stuff it.
I’m having a recurring thought/dream of a weird scenario. Trump is screwed out of the nomination by back room finagling (delegate tampering, rule changes) in favor of Rubio/Bush/ABT. The half breed throws SWMNBN under the bus and Biden is nominated. You have two nominees and two angry non-nominees.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Both non-nominees are so angry that they go to a third party. Now that would be fun. I predict that the Uniparty comes out of the shadows and merges their ticket.
Thanks, a fun read! (From VOX?)
“...motivated outsiders, like George McGovern’s 1972 campaign team, can also master the rules and see possibilities the insiders miss. Plus, money can buy expertise the chief operative behind Rick Santorum’s shocking 2012 Iowa caucus win, Chuck Laudner, is now working for Trump.”
It’s an intriguing comparison between the primary elections of Trump and McGovern- Vietnam = illegal immigration as an issue.
“The party” are the voters. Some in DC are not accustomed to that odd idea but they may find out shortly.
Question.
In GOPe what, exactly, does the lowercase “e” at the end mean?
.
What’s the calendar deadline for getting on ballots in all 50 states? If Trump gets screwed over at the convention, and it’s too late or technically not possible to get on all 50 state ballots, he’s snookered anyhow.
I hope he and his people are thinking of the things the snakes in the GOPe may do to stop Trump; and what he can do to prevent it, or go around them.
Establishment.
Thanks-———I could not figure it out.
.
Hey Hank. Great handle. Your mental processes seem to mirror those of Hank Kimball, and all his blithering psycho babble.
