This just arrived in my inbox from a Fox News spokesperson in reply to the earlier Trump/Fox post this afternoon. As the poet Aretha Franklin famously said: Who’s zoomin’ who?
At 11:45am today, we canceled Donald Trumps scheduled appearance on The OReilly Factor on Thursday, which resulted in Mr. Trumps subsequent tweet about his boycott of FOX News. The press predictably jumped to cover his tweet, creating yet another distraction from any real issues that Mr. Trump might be questioned about. When coverage doesnt go his way, he engages in personal attacks on our anchors and hosts, which has grown stale and tiresome. He doesnt seem to grasp that candidates telling journalists what to ask is not how the media works in this country.
They don’t say why they canceled his O’Reilly appearance but the implication, I think, is that they were punishing him for dumping all over O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly on Twitter on Monday night. In other words, they decided to boycott him before he decided to boycott them. Whoever started it, it’s worth noting that Fox didn’t break into their usual coverage this afternoon to air his speech in North Charleston. If that’s the sign of a new policy, eliminating all coverage of Trump that isn’t absolutely required for news purposes, we’ll soon have an answer to the question that’s hovered over the Trump/Fox bickering since it began, namely, does he need them more than they need him or vice versa? He’ll still have his megaphone at CNN and on broadcast news outlets but he won’t have the same pipeline to a Republican audience without FNC. And if his polls start to slip and/or Fox’s ratings show no signs of weakening without him, it’ll undercut one of the core parts of his appeal, that he’s immune to normal political forces. Ace:
Trump took a big drop in support after the second debate, falling from 32% to 24%, according to one poll. That would be a bad thing for anybody, but it’s particularly bad on a candidate who relies so heavily on the idea that because he is #Winning, he deserves to win. Take that away, and he’s only got an immigration plan for back-up…
Speaking for myself, Trump’s nigh-invulnerability to conventional attacks made him a much more appealing candidate — after all, how many times have you seen a candidate that the media just couldn’t scratch? That’s a powerful appeal — it’s just an extraordinary thing you’d like to see more of…
But Trump seems to have had not actual invulnerability, but just a fearsome amount of armor and resistance (I can’t help putting this in D&D/videogame terms). And he seems to be on the brink of exhausting that.
Trump’s the Green Lantern. Who wants to read a comic book about the Green Lantern once he’s lost his superpowers?
We’ll see what happens. O’Reilly, if not Kelly, will probably have something to say about this tonight. In the meantime, CNN might seize this an opportunity to boost ratings by luring in Trump fans with even more coverage of him — assuming that’s humanly possible. In lieu of an exit question, here’s a photo from Trump’s North Charleston event that’s being passed around on Twitter right now. Proof that Trumpmania is starting to break or just proof that it’s hard for anyone to fill a room in the middle of a weekday?

Update: A reader points out that today’s event is actually part of the annual meeting of the Greater Charleston Business Alliance and South Carolina African American Chamber of Commerce, which is likely to be a tough draw for any Republican.
Update: The same reader follows up to note that Trump will be Sen. Tim Scott’s guest at a town hall in South Carolina tonight at 6 p.m. Will Fox News cover it? Will CNN?
LOL!
Trump is doomed.
Yeah, going back to when I used to hear him on Neal Boortz’s radio show, Jamie Dupree always struck me as a lib cheerleader who was determined to not let it out. He has a very practiced veneer of objectivity, but it’s not that hard to see through it. I think I prefer the more honest leftist hacks who don’t pretend to be objective.
‘How is Trump going to negotiate all these huge deals with Russia, China, Mexico, etc if he cant deal with a news network?’
That’s what you’re missing. This IS the negotiation You’re watching it in progress.
Meanwhile 3 other polls since then show him 29-33%. No bias here.
The big winners:
-talk radio
-Sean Hannity who has a radio show. He can interview Trump since his radio show has nothing to do with Fox.
Talk radio will get a lot more interviews instead of Fox.
Trump and Obama - same ole attitude, brothers only from a different mother. You see Obama and you see Trump same ole tripe persists again and again!
Fux News inventory
Mike the Commie druggie Wallace’s son Chris, not GOP, He along with Me Gyn asked Ailes biased questions at 1st debate.

Trump should have seen this coming. Not fair and balanced
They have been hammering Trump 24/7 with BS attacks.
I would have complained too. And this Black Belt doesn’t whine. What are you supposed to do when the “Fair and Balanced” network kicks you balls and gouges your eyes every day?
Trump hits back, a Good Offense is the Best Defense. Zen says.
Absolutely right !
Rich Lowry on Me-gyna’s show just a few min ago-
Let’s be honest, in that last debate Carly Fiorina cut his balls off with the precision of a surgeon.
Yes, I can understand why Trump wouldn’t want to go on this slum gutter news channel.
Yeah, I know McCain wasn’t even in it to win.
But wouldn’t it have been great if Sarah could have said, “NBC’s not nice to me so I won’t be granting any more interviews’
And who knows, if more did this, maybe these hitmen/hitwomen would at least slow down.
So if I have this straight, “the news” is no longer “what happened” nor is it “what this person said about that person”, but now it’s “what this person said about this news outlet when that news outlet said that about this person” or it could be “what this news outlet said about that person after that person said this about that news outlet”.
This has submerged so far below usefulness, it has exceeded its crush depth. I already don’t own a TV, what are my options from here on out?
what I was thinking too
O’Reilly
A left of center moderate, except if you trash Catholics, then his Irish is up.
Look at his guest roster regulars. Mostly lefties.
O’Reilly and Trump two Rams butting heads.
One wants to save us and one wants to destroy us. I guess that’s minor.
IIRC, Eric Erickson got a few days of press for disinviting Trump. Peas in a pod, FoxNews, Eric Ericson, Salem Broadcasting, etc.
I agree.
But even if McCain won, he’s visited the jihadists in Syria, he calls people against illegals “crazies” so he would have been no prize.
Why would the GOPe Nitwork Fox brag dumping Trump first? Fair and Balance should not be their motto! I could say this is beyond silly! Oh well regardless, glad Trump will not go on their network. Get over it Fox ,nobody likes you or anyone in media catering to your candidates of choice. I feel better. ha!
Trump might be reacting too often to Fox, but Fox isn’t adjusting all that well to the new world of communications. In the past, folks at newspapers and TV networks could pontificate and criticize candidates daily and the candidates had limited means to respond.
Now candidates have many ways to respond via the internet and Trump is taking more advantage of it than any others. Candidates can answer criticism and comment on the fairness of the coverage they receive..
The Fox folks are and have been acting like pompous asses concerning Trump from the first. And he’s been firing back, maybe too often, maybe not.
Trump can’t control Fox any mor than he can control anyone else. He has gotten far more favorable coverage on Fox than anywhere else. A thicker skin would do the Donald well.
