WASHINGTON (AP) A government shutdown Oct. 1 could immediately suspend or delay food stamp payments to some of the 46 million Americans who receive the food aid.
The Agriculture Department said Tuesday that it will stop providing benefits "within the first several days of October" if Congress does not pass legislation to keep government agencies open.

All will remain quiet here in the hinterlands-the general store-the only place that took Lonestar cards/food stamps quit taking them many months ago...
I guess that if it really happens, in the nearest city-about 50 miles away-there will be people weeping and begging in front of all the WalMarts and big chain grocery stores?

Alread the scare tactics.
Whenever it is time for the budget, the scare stories and accusations of wanting to shutdown the government spread throughout the media.

If anybody misses a meal because the federal government shuts down, then the federal government is out of control, too big.

Dang Republicans hate poor people, minorities, women and of course hate the children.
The elected Republicans live in fear of your comment. I'm serious. And as long as they let that threat have power over them, they will never reduce the size of the dependent class, only make it larger.
Shutting the EBTs off for a week might, MIGHT, just wake up some people who have long thought of work as optional. Maybe they'd realize that it would be better to depend on their own self for an income instead of Big Daddy Gubmint. I would feel for those who are truly on hard times not of their own making.

My understanding is that anyone cut off from food stamps can go to their local TV stations and their local AP offices or the AP affiliate newspapers and receive all the food they need for themselves and their
chilren, under 29, for as long as the shutdown lasts. I
know they wouldn't turn anyone away.

Those in government might have threatened that in ‘13 but just remember, the millions of bureaucrats will continue to get a tax paid funded pay check. It’s no problem for fed/gov employees. In fact they’d like to see this happen often!

It is a “living, breathing” document. No, Clinton. It’s not. It said what it meant and it meant what it said.

Good point. More vacation time, usually the fall is quite pleasant weather in the beltway region.
