Congress’ Republican leaders face stark tests as they fight to keep the government open past month’s end, amid fears a shutdown could imperil their party’s White House ambitions.
For House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, any wrong move could throw his very future into question, opening him to a threatened showdown vote on the floor of the House over whether he can remain in his job. If that happens, there is no certain outcome.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., must contend with the ambitions of several GOP presidential candidates. One of them, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, has made it his business to oppose the Kentuckian at every turn, even taking to the Senate floor to accuse him of lying.
Now Cruz is once again goading a group of House tea partyers who have wreaked havoc with the leadership in the past.
Together they are demanding that must-pass spending legislation cut off all federal money for Planned Parenthood. The efforts follows the disclosure of secretly recorded videos in which Planned Parenthood officials are shown discussing how they acquire fetal parts for medical research. …

No, their “tough test” as always, is to advance liberalism while trying to look conservative. And it’s getting more difficult for them, hence the need to continually get the democrats to bail them out.

Hmmm, I wonder if the GOPe could get worried enough about Trump to throw Boehner to the wolves as a sacrificial lamb. (Not that that would do anything to influence me to vote for Yeb or any other GOPe candidate, anyway).

First of all, not all PP centers are doing the cut and sell....which is sick.
The Feds should go in and SHUT DOWN THE PPs who are engaging in the practice.
It violates the terms of the relationship with PP and the funding. It's a legal thing.
The big problem still remains....abortion itself. It is murder. There is no defense.

Notice how is is spun; it would be the GOP shutting down the government, not Obama with his veto.
All you need to know, really.
I can remember a time, long long ago when we never heard things like Government Shutdown. Is it possible that was because Congress passed and the President signed BUDGETS and they kinda tried to adhere to them.

It is hemorrhaging money at fantastic rates, so close it all save military and let the states keep things going.
No furloughs with backpay.
Our biggest problems extend when our elected officials do not have to make the tough decisions by passing a budget and go for ‘continuing resolutions’ instead. All this does is kick things down the road and accepts ALL spending as justifiable rather than undergoing a critical examination.
I suspect one of the chief reasons why even the GOP is afraid of closing it down is Americans will notice we do not need such a vast enterprise after all.
Or it could be because they happened so damn often.
There were 17 governmennt shutdowns between 1976 and 1995 -- about one per year.
What’s so difficult about passing a slightly more conservative budget with majority Republican votes? Send it to Obama and let him veto it. Attempt to override the veto while rightly blaming the president for being an obstructionist. Force him to use his veto pen!
Sadly, no. The GOPe prefers preemptive surrender in matters such as these. Standing on principle and making the president stand on his principles (dark though they may be)? Eh, not so much, GOPe, and that is exactly why you are so despised in some quarters!
The Republican Establishment Plan is to keep spending more money, keep raising the debt ceiling-18, 19, 20 trillion dollars. I THINK THE GOP-E LEADERS WILL HAVE TO JACK IT UP AGAIN THIS MONTH.
In Europe I noticed the austerity plans do the same thing.
They don’t bring the countries budgets into balance. There’s more spending and more debt owed to banks.
More debt means a steady and increased stream of loan payments to banks like people make to credit card companies as their credit limits are jacked up.
Credit rating agencies would lower the credit rating of the United States if Congress does not keep raising the debt ceiling. This was discussed in recent years.
I think the banks and money from outside the US financing our debt like Arab-Asian money and so on.
The politician who tells the people this country is being run by big banks and big business and so on would be telling a great deal of truth.
Its a corporatist system out there.
