And I would also say that as a nation the truth is, that a nation which in many ways was created, and Im sorry to have to say this, from way back on racist principles, thats a fact we have come a long way as a nation, he added.
My guess is that probably not everybody here is an admirer or voted for Barack Obama, Sanders said. But the point is, in 2008 this country took a huge step forward in voting for a candidate based on his ideas and not the color of his skin.

So, Bernie, the fact that you havent ever owned slavesmakes you superior to George Washingtonmeans that you cant be arrested for breaking the law. The fact that you know that everyone is the samemakes you smarter and wiser than the founders of the countrymeans that you know things that arent so. The founders of the country were born into a culture in which their parents legally owned slaves, and - tho well educated - did not know of any culture in history anywhere in which slavery was not an accepted institution. The founders moved the culture toward the abolition of slavery, but slavery in the South became more profitable at the very time that Christianity was becoming hostile to that institution. The result was the Civil War, which ended slavery in the US in plenty of time for your grandparents to raise your parents to feel superior to the founders, merely for the fact that they did not have the opportunity to do what the founders of the country did.
Bernie, you dont get to beg the question - what have you done that makes you a hero compared to George Washington?
Didn’t seem like it when he was discussing ‘reproductive rights’. Heard a lot of cheers.

“America Was Founded on Racist Principles”
Funny, I didn’t hear this snippet on NPR on the car radio this evening. It was all about seeking ‘common ground.’
Benjamin Franklin: “Slavery is an atrocious debasement of human nature.”
James Madison: “We have seen the mere distinction of colour made in the most enlightened period of time, a ground of the most oppressive dominion ever exercised by man over man.”
John Adams: “Every measure of prudence, therefore, ought to be assumed for the eventual total extirpation of slavery from the United States
. I have, through my whole life, held the practice of slavery in
abhorrence.”

that was the Confederate States of America and the Democrat Party, Sanders.
Will someone tell why if Obamas mother was a white woman is he considered black?
That is sad! I fear many of the so-called biblical schools are heading that direction.
http://www.ushistory.org - Slavery in the North
"Slavery was legal in all of the 13 Colonies and, at times, some areas of the North had higher rates of slaveholding than the South: A comparison of 1703 tax records shows that 3% of taxpayers in Boston were slaveholders, 7% of those in Philadelphia, and 42% of those in New York City. As this last figure indicates, slaveholding was more than an upper class phenomenon. Enslaved Africans were so cheap and plentiful in New York City that even working-class people could, and did, choose to own them. It also speaks volumes about the depressed price of manual labor, white or black, and of the difficulty of free labor to compete with slave labor. The constitution of the Vermont Territory (1777) prohibited slavery, but rather than freeing the enslaved, it required slaveholders to remove them from the territory. The history of abolitionism should not be romanticized; while the majority of individuals acted out of moral rectitude, others acted out of self-interest."
