US National Intelligence Director James Clapper on Thursday warned that America must be ready for a large, Armageddon-scale cyber attack, in remarks made at an annual conference of members of the US intelligence community in Washington DC.
Cyber threats to US national and economic security are increasing in frequency, scale, sophistication and the severity of impact, Clapper warned. Although we must be prepared for a large, Armageddon-scale strike that would debilitate the entire US infrastructure, its not our belief that thats the most likely scenario. [ ]
In a sign of the rising concern over the trend of cyber warfare in the private sector as well, Microsoft just this Tuesday announced its purchase of an Israeli cybersecurity startup named Adallom.
Clapper also spoke on Thursday about the crisis of Syrian refugees fleeing into Europe from the internecine civil war ravaging their country.

ROFL!!! Funniest post of the night!
Good for you! Your experience with people quietly supporting you is a good example of how intimidated most people are by Political Correctness. It’s very sad and shameful.
Dont we have counter measures in place?
That’s a good question.
If the grid goes down, we’re really screwed. I think 90% would be dead within 3 months.
Active Duty ping.
If we are really this vulnerable we deserve to get hit.
Other major countries are much better prepared.
All things considered, it’s amazing that the United States has lasted this long.
You can make them from tallow leftover from the inedible parts of your leftist neighbors.
Good idea.
I have long supected that all the large scale hacks of American personal and financial data were done to gain access to all our personal and business financial information. The attack comes at 4:00 a.m. EST on a Monday morning. When we wake up we find out the balances in all our checking, savings and investment accounts are the same.
Zero.
As long as you don’t mind the yellowish tinge and the sour smell...
He will eat you in a second.
If we lose cyber capability we will lose the grid. If we lose the grid, nuclear plants start overheating and meltdown. Forget everything else that goes wrong if our grid gets taken out and think about nuclear meltdowns and prevailing winds. IIRC, it would take about a week before things begin blowing up.
This will happen if a republican is elected president.
These idiots we elected to run this country have left us exposed and vulnerable.
This clapper dude answers to Hillary
Good critical summary.
Infosec is my field, and we’re living on a hope and a prayer.
Organizations are not taking Cybersecurity seriously enough.
True story:
Just conducted a risk assessment interview at one of the world’s largest multi-Billion dollar engineering consultant firm that manages operations at nuclear, chemical, petroleum plants around the world.
Q: I asked them how their ICS (Industrial Control Systems) / SCADA security posture was for the energy and chemical plants they manage around the globe.
A: Blank stare by Dir of IT.
Q: I asked how have their plant security assessment audits been going and how were they doing with keeping up on the vulnerability management of plant networks, servers, and control systems (valve, pump, sensor, wireless interfaces)
A: “I guess we should start doing that, huh.”
Simply terrifying.
Look on the bright side. At least your cat looks at you as a highly valued delicacy.
We don’t think it will happen but we want to scare the crap out of you anyway. Talk about mixed messenging. :-)
I am totally cynical, and believe they have done it on purpose.
