LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Police in Michigan have arrested the driver of a pickup truck who they believe intentionally struck a firefighter standing in a roadway collecting money for charity, killing him.

The 35-year-old Rodeman, who also served in the U.S. Marines in Iraq ... [was] participating in an annual fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the International Association of Fire Fighters, authorities said.

Rodeman was married two months ago, and he and his wife were expecting their first child, Fire Chief Randy Talifarro said.

LOL
I did. Now you read my comment, which had nothing to do with how events played out. If they hadn’t been in the road in the first place, the opportunity for the psycho to run down the fireman wouldn’t have presented itself in the first place...if they had chosen a SAFER venue to raise funds; odds are he would still be alive.

You are not speaking to the facts as we now know them. It appears this driver deliberately circled back, clearly knew the officer was there, clearly saw him, and deliberately ran him over. This was not an accident, this was vehicular murder.
They only approach the cars when the light is red and generally because they have been waved over by someone who wishes to give them a donation.
I am not sure what "frustrated commuters" would be all upset about as this does not delay anything and traffic is very light on labor day.
“It just couldnt be....could it?”
Driving a pickup truck?
(Do I really need a < /sarc> tag for this?)
They do this in my hometown, but the firemen stand in a median, not in the street.
Here in my town, they stand in the road a few Saturday mornings every year and collect money for the volunteer fire department and volunteer EMS. Why would a volunteer fire department have their members out collecting money for a national non-profit organization whose top executives probably earn half a million dollars a year?
So which lawless group was the perp from? Was it a black? or a moslem? or more likely, a black moslem?
Might have been Tea Party. /s
You know if that drivers name had been Joe Smith or something similar his name would have been plastered all over this article .
If the fifth-column leftist media deliberately blackout any data on the suspect, they've reported the data on the suspect.
More stories but not much more info. It doesn’t appear that visibility was an issue.

There will probably be more info later today so I’ll keep an eye on the story.
Love it!!!
He was wearing a reflective vest, and that made it easier for the perp to aim for him.
I’ve seen high school kids collecting money in the road for sports teams. The local rescue squad was doing it this spring.
Not my idea of good sense.
“I am betting this driver will claim he Dindu Nuffin wrong because the firefighter used a racial term”
Or wore a confederate flag.

It isn’t just cops or firefighters who collect in the streets. Around here, I frequently see people collecting for charities, Little League, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. The homeless are out there too. I used to see a guy in a wheelchair along Diversey Avenue in Chicago. It is dangerous for anyone, and annoying to drivers, and I don’t see how it is allowed.
Agreed, around my way it's only police/firefighters as far as I've seen.
Same thing here. Our firefighters do a ‘fill the boot’. They stand on the sidewalks holding the boot up and will walk into the street to the car to get a donation when waved to. Usually the person in the car already has their money out to drop in the boot.
Since hubby was a firefighter (retired now) I have helped work our ‘fill the boot’ fundraisers. We have one coming out that I’ve volunteered for.
