I Didn’t Ask Trump 'Gotcha Questions'
Politico ^ | 9/5/15 | HUGH HEWITT

Posted on 09/07/2015 5:37:33 AM PDT by jimbo123

The late, great writer and reporter Michael Kelly was a guest on my radio show almost weekly from its debut in July of 2000 through his death outside of Baghdad in April 2003. So was Christopher Hitchens—more than 70 times in fact—until his death in late 2011. Kelly always emphasized that journalism was a “craft,” not a profession and Hitchens that it was very much a moral crusade. I think it is both, and more. It is part of a functioning, free democratic Republic, and its practitioners must not be intimidated.

The very best journalists—those who go to the front lines of combat like Kelly and Hitchens, John Fisher Burns, Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Dexter Filkins, Robert Kaplan, David Kirkpatrick, Thomas Ricks and scores of others routinely ask tough questions of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines they cover, from the privates to the generals. These journalists set a standard for desk jockeys like me who cover politics and public policy but who have never been remotely in harm’s way. I think we who work from the comfort of studios owe it to the public generally, and specifically to men and women deployed at the tips of various spears around the world, to ask would-be presidents how they will conduct themselves as Commander-in-Chief.

In the weeks since the first GOP presidential debate I have conducted 30 interviews with would-be nominees. Some have been prickly. (John Kasich as my home state governor seems particularly entitled to mock me and my questions, which is fine by me. He is a Steelers fan after all.) In my view all 30 have been fair. Some disagree about my Thursday interview with Donald Trump, the fourth I conducted with him in the past month. Other earlier interviews from the spring have also caused other candidates

Excellent!

What’s wrong with Hewitt’s face? Is his lip paralyzed or something?

Prince Reince Priebus-e and his cohourts at the RNC chose phoney conservative Huge Halfwit to be one of the debate moderators in spite of the fact he publicly had been trashing Trump prior to the appointment.

This was no accident because Reince is a man with a plan...i.e., destroy Donald Trump. Therefore, the debate will be moderated by two leftist CNN shills and one pretend "conservative".

Any Reoublican or conservative who still contributes to the RNC should have his head examined by Dr. Carson.

I bet after the interview Hugh was high fiving it with all his buddies in the GOP wing of the dimoKKKRAT party. Now it has come back to bite him in the a$$ for playing trivial pursuit with Donald.

Hewitt gotcha question? You betcha. Hugh Hewitt is a big RINO and always has been. For proof all you have to do is listen to his radio show more than once. Although don’t bother; it’s not worth it. Plus Trump, as usual, is right. Hugh Hewitt is definitely a third rate radio show host. Few know of him as he is not really a conservative, so those that do listen to him are mostly RINOs. And that is what the RNC and CNN wanted, a GOPe well known amongst them as being a RINO like them.

“I meant to add but it set the stage for Trump to hide behind and claim a setup when he gets legitimate questions he can’t answer which Trump Chumpions eagerly defend.”

Legitimate to you and a few of your ilk, but a gotcha question to most others, including non-Trump supporters that are nevertheless intelligent conservatives and can smell a gotcha question a mile away. You obviously have stuffed olfactory senses.

Exactly so!

Hugh Hewitt is a wonkie nerd and he hasn’t aged well. Last time I checked, Hewitt’s major issues and interests are not ours.

Is Jake Trapper one of “questioneers” for CNN’s debate?

He sort of likes Mr. Trump, or at least he “pretends to” whenever I’ve seen him interview Donald Trump.

These journalists, people with no education, think asking Jeopardy style questions are relevant instead of the useless and juvenile questions they are.

I’m not sure what the disconnect is for people like Hugh.

He sure doesn’t get Conservatism at all.

I’ve said this over and over, but I simply cannot listen to him. I want to scream at the radio. Just won’t put myself through it.

If a guy’s a Leftist, he is. Just admit it and operate like one.

When they say they’re a Conservative and then contribute to the public not understanding what a Conservative is, that bothers me big-time.

Bush pulled that routine and it cost Conservatism a lot of respect when the lending fiasco melted down.

Some of these folks can’t grasp that a terrorist group whose coverage makes up just 0.83% of the coverage for about eight leading terrorist groups, is not the thing you hang your radio host hat on if you desire credibility.

Early on I said it wasn’t Trump’s credibility that suffered here. It was Hugh’s.

He displayed to what absurd lengths he would go to to take someone down he didn’t agree with. That’s not an example of intelligence or reason.

None the less, the anti-Trump folks ran with it like there was real meat on those bones

The official answer is 3050 fps for M855. For M193 it’s 3250. Hugh Hewitt doesn’t know the difference or the numbers.

Hugh Hewitt is not as smart as 95% of NCO candidates in the Army.

Yes, Jake Tapper will be the major moderator at the CNN debate. Jake is fairer than most at CNN, and one of the more honest, but don’t let that fool you. Underneath the facade still beats the heart of a liberal.

Looks like I can go up a grain or so in powder. My most accurate load averages 2900-2950 with a 55 grain soft point through my Rock River M4gery.

Thanks.
