With shackles around her ankles and waist, this is the moment the defiant Kentucky clerk who is refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses was led away from federal court - and taken to jail.
Kim Davis, 49, was told by U.S. District Judge David Bunning on Thursday that she would stay behind bars until she complied with his order to resume issuing the licenses to gay couples.
Donning a blue top and striped skirt, Davis, a thrice-divorced Apostolic Christian who works at Rowan County Courthouse, said 'thank you' before being led from the courtroom by a marshal.
She later insisted that she would not accept a compromise that would allow her out of jail. Attorneys for the plaintiffs had proposed to the court that Davis be freed if she promised not to interfere with her deputies. But Davis refused - noting her name would still be on the licenses.

A good argument could be made that she ran for office to carry out the will of the government and the people at that time. She is an elected official and thus cannot be fired. The “new” law should not be applied to her retroactively. Her beliefs should be “grandfathered” in. Then if the people do not like the way she performs her duties they could run a candidate of their choice.

in total, Sharpton reportedly owes more than $3.7 million in back taxes
Meanwhile, the DOJ obeys the laws they choose and ignore those they don’t like.
In better times, there would be pitchforks and tar and feathers being gathered.
You are making a joke, right?
It is coming. Probably soon to very soon.
Contempt of a lawless court is not a criminal act, it’s a citizen’s duty.
Do we know who actually took her into custody?
Sheriff? State Police? U.S. Marshal?
If it was her local Sheriff, he should be ashamed of himself and thrown out on his ass.
I saw one of the prosecutors on TV last night saying that she didn’t even ask for any jail time. The judge just did that on his own. She seemed genuinely shocked that he did it. This judge needs to rot in hell.
So do I. I just was not able to express it as eloquently as you.
Same reason the judge ruled as he did. They all value their paychecks and want them to continue. Most people prefer security to liberty.
There are enough laws and regs to convict anyone of anything, it's now a matter of offending the wrong people, and showing any kind of sympathy or fairness to the lady would have offended the wrong people.
Yes, “purged” is such an ugly word. I just can’t think of a pretty word for eliminating all Christians from government jobs. What word would you use?
Jesus was shackled too. Remember Jefferson Davis? You know the President of the Confederacy who was hated by the south for losing the Civil War? He was captured and put in rivoted manicals and tossed in a dark and dank cell (here he got sick and almost died) He became a symbol—an object of pity. The cry went out throughout the south that he was manicaled for our sins. This could happen to this young woman. Many whites and blacks and browns feel she should not be in jail.
Please, Rosa Parks was a communist and tool of the NAACP, knowing that their lawyers, money and political power were behind her. Kim appears to be a genuine born again Christian acting on her conscience, and alone, without the support of any political movement.
I fear we will incure a divine judgement for our sins. Our enemies are emboldened—a blow will fall before Obama Leaves office.
Judges name is DAVID Bunning
You positive it isn’t Dirtbag, son of Jim, appointee of Dubya?
It sounds like she could remain in jail the rest of her life, or until her term expires (but the judge might find a reason to keep her in jail anyway if that were to happen).
‘My God, I think I know why you have forsaken us.’
