Ted Cruz: 'I Stand With Kim Davis'
Talking Points Memo ^ | 9/3/15 | Tierney Sneed

Posted on 09/03/2015 1:13:08 PM PDT by VinL

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) rushed to the defense of the Kentucky clerk held in contempt of court Thursday for her refusal to issue gay marriage license and issued a statement calling for "every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis."

Davis, the clerk in Rowan county, had stopped issuing licenses to all marriage couples after the Supreme Court decision legalized same-sex marriage and was sued by a group of couples.

"Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny," Cruz said. "Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America."

Read Cruz's full statement below:

“Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.

“I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally. I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court decision.

“In dissent, Chief Justice Roberts rightly observed that the Court’s marriage decision has nothing to do with the Constitution. Justice Scalia observed that the Court’s decision was so contrary to law that state and local officials would choose to defy it.

“For every politician — Democrat and Republican — who is tut-tutting that Davis must resign, they are defending a hypocritical standard. Where is the call for the mayor of San Francisco to resign for creating a sanctuary city — resulting in the murder of American citizens by criminal illegal aliens welcomed by his lawlessness?

“Where is the call for President Obama to resign for ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, and even his own Obamacare?

“When the mayor of San Francisco and President Obama resign, then we can talk about Kim Davis.

“Those who are persecuting Kim Davis believe that Christians should not serve in public office. That is the consequence of their position. Or, if Christians do serve in pubic office, they must disregard their religious faith–or be sent to jail.

“Kim Davis should not be in jail. We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so.

“I call upon every Believer, every Constitutionalist, every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis. Stop the persecution now.”

Just vote for Hillary. You have been showing her so much support this year anyway that you might as well just do it and become a Democrat. You have the principles for it.

“You had that discussion on another thread where you got your rhetorical butt kicked.”

Actually, to date no one has answered me at all. Should a county clerk with a religious objection to divorce be allowed to refuse a marriage license to a divorced man who wants to marry? Yes or no?

He has not put her on a pedestal like the Democrat lovers are on this thread. Soon they will call her to run for President. I am so disgusted by supporting a Democrat. They have destroyed the country and now they are cheating for the Democratic party. I don’t like it at all. It makes us look weak. No wonder the GOPe thinks they can run all over us.

Make it Cruz/Trump and I’d be ok with that.

I hope Ted Cruz visits Kim Davis and offers personal encouragement. She chose wisely. But the Devil won't permit that choice to go easily on her while he walks free. Kim is the recipient of true hatred today from every lover of evil filled with glee at her demise.

I answered on the other thread. But one more time. Divorce is allowed even thou the Lord hates divorce. So no a religious person has no religious reason to not issue the license.

It is upsurged to try to morally equivocate sodomy (which the bible says is a sin) and divorce which is allowed.

See, this is the kind of jackassery that you excel at. I have never supported Hillary, not once.

But you aren’t about reason and logic. Nope. You are about sneering artifice.

The only principle you have is making sure that no one can be a bigger prick on the internet as you.

I am not against Cruz, Davis nor Jim Robinson. We have some differences of opinion.

This is Jim’s site. He can make it whatever he wants to. I don’t think I am alone though in saying that I no longer feel comfortable as a conservative here sometimes. Things have changed. The people have changed. Like the country and the repub party it seems like it has moved to the left. That is the way things are now.

I do not wish Ms Davis any ill will. I do not want to see her in prison away from her family. I think that her past is being brought up to smear her but she has to own it. Only God knows what is really in her heart. I’m just saying that she needs to bear some of the responsibility for what has happened. I support her belief that gay marriage is wrong.

However I cannot understand the contradiction she poses with her party affiliation.

“Divorce is allowed even thou the Lord hates divorce. So no a religious person has no religious reason to not issue the license.”

Divorce is allowed in cases of adultery. It is not allowed for any reason.

3 Then the Pharisees arrived with a test-question. “Is it right,” they asked, “for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds whatever?”

4-6 “Haven’t you read,” he answered, “that the one who created them from the beginning ‘made them male and female’ and said: ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two separate people but one. No man therefore must separate what God has joined together.”

7 “Then why,” they retorted, “did Moses command us to give a written divorce-notice and dismiss the woman?”

8-9 “It was because you knew so little of the meaning of love that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives! But that was not the original principle. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife on any grounds except her unfaithfulness and marries some other woman commits adultery.”

So...if a man has been divorced for a reason other than adultery, and wishes to remarry - Jesus calls it “adultery”.

Last time I checked, adultery is a sin, as is homosexual marriage. So if a clerk can deny a license based on religious objection to one, she must also have the right to deny licenses based on religious objection to the other.

But of course, a county clerk is not, in any way, approving of homosexuals OR divorcees getting “married” by issuing a marriage license. She is merely saying that under the law, X & X have met the legal qualifications. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with her views, and she is not in any way endorsing it.

There are many ways to fight the pushing of homosexuality. This is not one of them. Many states make sexual perversion a protected category via their state EO laws. That is why people have been sued in Oregon and Colorado and New Mexico - those states have laws on the book making homosexuals a protected category. Fighting to overturn those laws would be much more effective, protecting private citizens from being forced to participate in perverted ceremonies.

Some states are looking at strengthening the wording of religious freedom laws. ALL states ought to, and the Congress should pass one - even if Obama vetoes it!

But no - a county clerk has no right to impose her religious views on a marriage license.

When I was in the military, I didn’t get to pick and choose what wars I thought were just. I could either be willing to fight, or resign. Period. I fail to see how her situation is different.

Divorce is allowed and where on the marriage license request does one put the reasons they divorced? You are just down in the weeds trolling. I try not to feed the trolls so “see ya”.

[However I cannot understand the contradiction she (Kim Davis) poses with her party affiliation.]

She is a civil-servant government worker, and we all know that they tend to vote democrat, mainly for pocketbook reasons.

However, regarding the issue of her contradiction between religion and party affilliation.

Jesus does not exclude people, including democrats.

Democrats are allowed to be Christian.

So there is no contradiction between her religious beliefs and political affiliation.

IOW, you have no answer. You’d feel stupid saying a clerk can deny a license to a divorced man, but you don’t want to admit it.

Try this one - when I was in the military, should I have had the right to choose which wars were justified in the eyes of God, and not deploy unless I liked the reasons?

If someone is a Muslim county clerk, should they have the right to issue a license for polygamous marriage?

When you are a government agent, do your religious beliefs allow you to act contrary to what the law says you must do? Or do you need to resign? I spent 25 years in the military. I was always told that if I objected to the morality of military action, I needed to resign or go to prison. Why is she different?

Listen I already answered you twice. Divorce is allowed by Christian churches and by the teaching of Christ. So there is no reason not to issue a marriage license. Plus I doubt there is any paper work concerning a prior divorce so in all likelihood the clerk knows nothing about the divorce status of the applicant. That is the last cookie you get from me troll.

I disagree with you. To me, that would be called being a hypocrite but you have a right to your opinion.

I do know what you mean though about government workers voting their pocketbooks instead of their morals. I can’t find anything honorable about that. Sorry.
