U.S. Ambassador Brett McGurk said that 17,000 Syrian refugees have applied to enter the U.S. and that the nation will likely take in more of them next year.
We took in about 1,500 last year. We think well take in more next year, McGurk, who serves as the deputy special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, said Sunday on Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.
McGurks comments came in response to Todds question about whether the U.S. would increase the number of refugees it takes in from Syria.
The United States takes in more refugees than any country around the world. We took in about 70,000 refugees last year, 20,000 asylum seekers. We have about 17,000 Syrian refugee applicants now to come into the U.S., he said.

Obama spoke about this with [German] Chancellor [Angela] Merkel last month.

What could go wrong?
Let them continue to wait.
Anchor babies ahoy!
NO.
Let them in!!! As long as they are Christians.
Christians only!
Mexicans are generally considered Christian. “Let them in” too>
Amen
Must be documented and verified.
Must be willing to urinate on the Koran while eating a ham sandwich.
Ho...Li...Fook!
Cultural suicide, it’s here.
Not 17,000 Syrians, but 17,000 vetted Democratic voters. All who have their welfare papers filled out before they get here; where they are all planted as a voting bloc.
I heard that the gubmint has plans to dump lots of Muslims in places like Idaho. That makes sense. A few thousand Muslim voters in low population states like Idaho could swing senatorial and congressional elections in the Democrats favor.
And machine gunning nine imams and 12 ayatollahs to death while publicly converting to Christianity.
But hold back those Christians.
I think this was part of his original plan , when he went to Cairo and gave the speech that can be seen as launching the Arab Spring ; that contentious Arabs and muslims in general would soon come to conflict , their countries riven with ultra strife and the refugees resulting could then be taken in to the United States under the auspices of ‘ compassionate response to international tragedy .
100% Alinsky ...and the clueless uninformed don’t see it
Send them all to politician’s neighborhoods.
Invest now in torch and pitchfork stocks.
No, I’m sorry, but the last thing we want is for the Christians to come here.
I’m Eastern Orthodox and between confiscation by the Muslims and Israel, we have very little left. This is the “final solution” for Christians in the Middle East.
What we need is to stop being a bunch of followers and start leading by saying hell no to Satan’s helpers in the ME. We shouldn’t have left Iraq the way we did and we should have IMPOSED BY FORCE a constitution that protected individual liberties.
Too hard? We should have considered that before we invaded Iraq. Now we own the problem, let’s fix it. We changed Japan. We changed Germany. We changed South Korea. We can do it on Iraq and Syria.
Send them to South Africa! Madagascar? Indonesia? Japan????
How about Dubai?
Where is it written that the WEST has to keep taking in these people?
