An administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison suggested at a recent roundtable conversation that, in order to combat overpolicing in the community, police should no longer respond to shoplifting claims at large stores such as Wal-Mart, and shouldnt agree to prosecute people caught stealing.
I just dont think that they should be prosecuting cases for people who steal from Wal-Mart. I just dont think that, right? said UW-Madison director of community relations Everett Mitchell. I dont think [with] Target or all them other places, them big box stores that have insurance, they should be using justification, the fact that people steal from there as justification to start engaging in aggressive police practices, right?
Everetts remarks were made Tuesday as part of a UW-Madison panel on the topic of Best Policing Practices. Everett argued that community police shouldnt prioritize enforcing the law, but instead should focus on achieving safety as it is defined by a local community, even if that definition includes allowing some stores to be robbed with impunity.
We have got to a place where we are not longer able to define what safety means for us, he said. It is now being redefined over and over again in terms of what they think we want them to defend for us.
Everett said that police were using high rates of theft at stores as an excuse for excessive policing.
I go to these meetings and thats what they throw up there on the table, Look at where all this crime is happening, at the East Towne and the West Towne Mall, and the Wal-Marts and Targets, thats where crime is happening, thats why we have to focus so much they do that all the time to justify why theyre going to over police our children.
Everett admitted that thanks to his comments, I may never get a job at Wal-Mart.
Ironically, Everett himself once worked as an assistant district attorney.
Everetts remarks were noticed by the watchdog group Media Trackers, which uploaded a video of his comments.

Someone should post this quote and Everett Mitchell’s address and see if he changes his mind.
Madison, Wisconsin is Commie Central in Wisconsin..
Like Berkeley in Mexifornia..
I suppose Everett has homeowner’s insurance, too, which should make his home a non-prosecutable robbery target, right?
College Administrator????
Oh, public relation ... using latest communication skills ...
We should all go to the campus store and take some cool free stuff. It is okay cause it is a big university that charges tons of tuition.
Every dime of public funding for universities should be eliminated. I don’t care if it causes a higher education depression. I don’t care how many colleges go under. At this point, universities need to go through a culling where the useless programs and professors, like this dope, get eliminated and only programs that students are willing to pay for are left. Plus, taxpayer-funded tuition will drop back down to sane levels if public money is eliminated.
“Like Berkeley in Mexifornia..”
I think Berkeley radicals are more educated ...
Unpaymentabled shoppers.
According to University of Wisconsin-Madison salary info, this ‘learned individual’ earns around $89,000/yr. Not too shabby. I’m sure he carries insurance for various possessions he owns. Lets go ‘lift’ some of his stuff as he is apparently cool with it.....ya know, cuz he has insurance.
Every time I turn around there is another Black, like this Everett, making the case that there is truly something wrong with Black brains. Other examples are Shiela Jackson Lee, Rep Johnson, and many, many more.
In many cases they don’t. Most shoplifting cases now go civil recovery.
And, property rights; the ability to own and control your own “stuff” is fundamental to human freedom, but is at odds with socialism. So, why prosecute people for taking things that belong to big corporations, it’s just stuff, right? And, they’re just big business, so to this idiot’s way of “thinking”, it doesn’t make any sense to prosecute shoplifters.
Police don’t prosecute.
They arrest for committing what has been legislated as a crime.
I think Berkeley radicals are more educated ...
Thats why Mexifornia is worse off than Wisconsin..
The BEST radicals live in Detroit..
Another report on the UW college administrator who is against prosecuting shhoplifting cases. The comments are priceless.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
“The BEST radicals live in Detroit..”
I thought they all moved to Chicago?
How about if stores build dungeons and take care of matters their selves.
I don’t see how someone this stupid manages to dress and feed themselves. How is it possible that someone this stupid advances so far in life to be a college admin?
So then offer everything for free, starting with the college bookstore, cafeteria, and gift shop. No price, no shoplifting.
