A Response to Free Republic Trump Critics
Vanity

Posted on 08/31/2015 12:43:37 AM PDT by Behind the Blue Wall

Why Trump?

1. Illegal immigration is the only issue; if it's not stopped soon, America will become like California -- a demographic one-party state.

2. Politics is about name-recognition and none of the other candidates besides Trump has the name recognition to challenge Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton.

Therefore, Trump is the only candidate with a chance to win who has promised to do the only thing that matters.

Cruz has not been perfect, in my opinion, but he’s been far closer than the others.

He’s the top of my list. Trump is on my list for an entirely different reason. He is the other most likely in my opinion to demolish our current GOP.

Most of Trump’s ideas can be found in his 2011 book, Time to get Tough:

‘The Washington Establishment’s increasing angst and opposition to billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy is predicated on the notion that his highly-quotable catchphrases—“Take the oil!” or “Build a wall!”—lack substantive policy prescriptions to back them up. In short, the RINOcaucus’ knock on Trump is that his solutions are unserious, unmeasured, quixotic.

Yet if the chattering class fears Trump’s recent surge in the polls, they will go into panic-filled paroxysms when they read Trump’s smart and serious bestseller, Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again.

Excellent comments, sister. I do think Jeb is being outfoxed by Trump. Jeb is busy citing his tax lowering in Florida, but not mentioning his increased spending. He cites his belief that illegals are a love story, but doesn’t talk of the billions upon billions in money going to them out of the American taxpayer pocket. He doesn’t mention the lost jobs, lower wages, criminal gangs, rapists, murderers, and drug cartel members.

He’s like the man in the viper den who can see only the pretty rocks.

Well I will probably be heckled for admitting it, but I simply had no idea Cruz was committing to a wall back in ‘12. To think of all the non-Trump supporters who have ridiculed me for believing Trump will follow through on the wall. I suppose they would say, ‘yes, but when Cruz says it, he means it.’

Who knows.

Fwiw, I believe Trump will build a wall bc there is a big payoff, personally and politically, to him for keeping this commitment. By the same token, there is a huge liability to him, personally and politically, in breaking this commitment. Plus, he just loves to build things. It’s what, as a real estate developer, he does. He’s likely salivating over the ‘deal’ he’ll pull off to get the wall built even as we speak.

Anyway, thanks again for the link. It was/is priceless.

The Trump Wall isn’t anything new...it’s been in the works to streamline and control the commodity of “workers” coming in and out across the border...it’s simply a matter of presenting it “Politically” and Who to favor that a wall is going up...but it’s been in the works for a time as means of “controlling” the border...never closing it.

I am in total agreement with you. Trump will build the wall.

I was researching the wall between India and Bangladesh and it has been so successful (modeled after the Israeli wall between Israel and Palestine) that they are now in the process of a wall between them and Pakistan, and envision one between them and Myanmar. We’re talking thousands of miles.

If it didn’t break the bank in India, of all places, then it is an easy build job for the USA. And, as you’ve said, Trump is by trade a builder. I heard him say last week that it’s far harder to build a skyscraper. (Words to that effect). I agree. How hard can a wall be? (I can buy a fence around my acreage if I want to. I wouldn’t bankrupt, and it would keep the neighbor kids away from a few danger spots I’m aware of, and it would lessen my liability...I think I’ve just talked myself into it. LOL.)

Israel swears by theirs, and those wanting to get in have a rabid, fanatical desire to kill Israelis and would get in if it were easy. It must not be easy.

I, too, believe he’ll build it, and one way or another he’ll be able to have the Mexicans pay for it. I suspect he’s speaking of tariffs.

I believe the wall is doable, I question how long it will take. However, I think the notion of deporting all the illegals is going to be A LOT harder to achieve.

I think a fully enforced e-verify will have them go home on their own. Trump won’t say that, but he won’t have to deport anyone once the border is controlled, visas are controlled, and e-verify is fully enforced.

Remember, he also promises an easy work permit re-entry for the good, hard-working Mexicans. I imagine he have employers come up with job evaluations before they get caught on e-verify.

Cruz/Trump 2016

Trump would an excellent New York City Mayor....

Being President is way over his head..

Like PeeWee Herman being appointed Supreme Court Judge..
Or Gomer Pyle being appointed to the Chiefs of Staff...
Or Barny Fife appointed to Federal Attorney General..

Or Rip Taylor appointed to Press Secretary..
** but that might work.. actually..

I didn’t know about the wall between India and Bangladesh. Fascinating. As you said, if India can do it, surely so can the USA. We have been decimated by nearly 7 yrs of Obama, yet not to the point that we can’t even build a wall, surely. Where there’s a will there’s a way/wall.

I do have high hopes for this election. Carter was so bad, the country wanted something better in his wake. It’s a different country now, thanks to leftist public schools and changing demographics. Otoh, Obama has been exponentially worse than Carter. The time feels right for a major course correction. With Jeb sinking like a stone through water, all signs look auspicious.

have you ever driven the border to see that a wall is for miles and miles impossible, especially in the middle of the Rio Grande?

How about:

Like Rip van Winkle being in charge of Meth production.

Actually, based on the current status of the nation, it is a terrible mistake to put a: Governor, Senator, Representative, in charge of the government. They’ve proven their inability to handle the job.

We have a really successful farmer in our county, head and shoulders above the rest. He’d make a better president than any of those running.

But, being a farmer isn’t a credential to ever be president. Unless he’s also a lawyer. He could practice suing the chickens, I guess. :>)

The fence/wall can be completed in no time, given all of our resources.

The illegals will begin to deport themselves once welfare benefits are cut off, if we can begin doing this soon enough. 0bola has begun an importation of illegals program to rival what is going on in Europe, right now.

If we don’t stop this infiltration (enforce laws, build the wall, empower our LEO’s to enforce said laws, etc) and stop the magnets (free stuff) sooner, rather than later, it will not be reversible.

Trump is the ONLY one willing to do what it will take/all of the above. He’s saying he’ll do the necessary hard work, that no one else is saying they’ll do. We get partial promises, but no one is offering the full package to solve this spreading problem.

I live in Texas, that fallacy - that you can’t build a fence along our border, due to our terrain/river - has been disputed, time after time, long ago.

Besides, in the few areas you might not want a fence/wall/barrier, you have other means to man/protect/secure.

You’ve seen how this has been done in other countries (Israel, etc), so I won’t post redundant info on that.

I see..... then REAGAN was a MISTAKE?.. or Barry Goldwater?.. or Scott Walker?..

Cruz was prepared specifically for THIS JOB..
The man of the HOUR.. tested prepared and qualified..
Fast on his feet, conservative as the day is long, and knows how to DO IT.. RIGHTLY..

Uh...no. Immigration is not the only issue. It is one issue. Bringing jobs back to the US, repealing Obamacare, removing regulations that are stifling business, and other major leftist-caused problems with the economy needs to be fixed as well. Otherwise, this nation will not survive. Illegal immigration is just one issue and one aspect of this cluster%#& that the leftist Democrats have created.

Name recognition means nothing if the immediate connotation that comes with that name reads "fat cat, entitled, corporatist elitist"...which could easily be tied to the name Donald Trump by many Americans.

What we need in order to save this nation at this point is a solid conservative with a proven conservative track record. The fact that Trump has never been known as a conservative or known for mostly conservative views (like his being pro-abortion and pro-single payer healthcare) is not only troubling, but it may well keep him from winning any GOP primary.

link

Which would automatically mean that he would probably run as 3rd party Independent, and siphon off enough votes form the GOP to allow ANY POS leftist Democrat to win. Which is, coincidentally, my fear re: his intentions all along.

We could see Reagan as an exception to the rule that politicians are terrible leaders. We are, after all, 20 trillion dollars in debt.
