The second man to walk on the Moon is teaming up with Florida Institute of Technology to develop 'a master plan' for colonizing Mars within 25 years. Buzz Aldrin, 85, took part in a signing ceremony Thursday at the university, which is located in Melbourne, less than an hour's drive from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The Buzz Aldrin Space Institute is set to open this fall at FIT. Aldrin, who followed Neil Armstrong onto the moon's surface on July 20, 1969, will serve as a research professor of aeronautics as well as a senior faculty adviser for the institute. He is pushing for a Mars settlement by approximately 2040 after crafting a system of flights to take humans there in incremental steps.

Speaking of space, anybody else watch The Astronauts Wives Club? I found it entertaining even if a bit preachy at times. Brought back a lot of good memories. The bigger parts of the story seem true as I remember them, but does anyone know how accurate the personal stories are?

Another little tidbit that the msm has suppressed since 1969: Buzz Aldrin was also the first astronaut to take Communion (the Holy Eucharist) on the moon.

I wonder if any of the other astronauts or engineers of the Apollo era will be taking part in it.

Millenials are chomping at the bit to do something great for their generation.

The economy has been stagnant as far as they can remember. The US has ‘always’ been at war in their lifetimes. They were raised with the Internet, so its novelty is lost on them.

I think that once they shave their hipster beards and get serious about their careers and this country, they could do great things.

The odds are against Mr. Aldrin living to see the year 2040. If this plan succeeds I believe we will know where to relocate the UN building.

That could equal limitless space with almost no leakage and environments protected against solar and background radiation.

That’s one thing I respect about the guy. He’s planning something beyond himself and his lifespan.

Perhaps. But US Millennials have one overriding concern: safety, and there is nothing safe about riding a rocket, let alone traveling through space in a tin can bound for Mars.

Going to Mars is not on their list, bucket or otherwise. Maybe the Chinese or Russian Millennials will look at things differently.

First, we need a way for humans to cross space shielded from solar flares, cosmic rays, etc.

Project Orion solved this by using millions of gallons of water as a shield for the crew - 200 odd, in the small ships.

That would appear to be the best way to start out there for sure. Next year they're sending a seismometer to Mars on InSight. I suppose that will allow them to choose a suitable place to dig a home once they have some data.
