Lindsay Graham, as part of the taunt-war hes having with Donald Trump, says that if Trump wins the GOP nomination, it will mean the end of the Republican Party. Hes right, but Trump means the end of the Republican Party even if he doesnt get the nomination.
I wrote a few weeks ago that Trump represents the Jump the Shark moment of the party. The GOP has been a rickety, unsustainable contraption of policy prescriptions that dont add up, dont really represent the coalitions actual members, and is based on a backward-looking set of views appealing to an ever-shrinking demographic. It has been held together this long with an ever-more-obfuscatory confabulation of misdirection, packaged in buzzwords and amped with anger. It was overdue to come unglued.
Trump is a disruptor of the most lethal sort. His blunt language is shattering the brittle framework of GOP nostrums that forever promise things they dont deliver. He is revealing the basic discordance between party leaders and rank and file. He is like the rogue catalyst that breaks one bond, then moves on to break the next and the next. Theres no easy way to stop this, though the party establishment is frantically trying to think of one.

Good idea— as they are providing the matches to torch their house. Semper Fidelis.
What's that, some silly-assed GOPe compromise offer?
No. Never again.
It’s getting to be quite the echo chamber in here...disappointing, although I suspect those of in here who still understand that it’s Dem policies and Dem politicians who are doing their utmost to mess up America are just sitting back and watching this play out.
For a dying party they sure got a lot of seats in Congress. Actually I think both parties could be dying, except they’ll come back. They have too much inertia to really die, they’ll just thrash around a bit and get reborn as something else.
The GOP died 8 or 10 years ago.
NAME recognition is so important and takes time, money, plus takes years to build. While I am not a believer in dynasties, it is true the Father parent, and the two Sons likely work from the same basic principals of America’s foundation and desired futures. Which is somewhat true of all wanting to govern and hold a high office.
America has a foundation of a government based on freedom, faith and potential to have the REPUBLIC that WORKS, STILL.
While each were not perfect their record is basically good! Compared to ???? Jeb was a good Governor in Florida, George handled (911 attack and aftermath) as well as possible. We might want to LOOK for the GOOD in what they have done as compared to the record uncertainty of the unknowns. Food for thought.
The ComPost and its ilk love the modern GOP.
The worst that can happen is the “e” can be dropped from GOP, and that is a very good thing.
All other politicians are owned by rich donors
GOP and democrat party are terrible and both are anti-American. But it's really all politicians as they are all owned by rich donors like the koch brother, soros, china billionaires, zuckerberg, all are pro amnesty
even if you start a new party if you allow foreign billionaires like Soros, China billionaires or even liberals like the facebook creep or the pro-amnesty kock brothers then you will have corrupt politicians controlled by these rich donors
“And Hillary does mean the end of the Demoncraps”
No hillary means more free stuff. Free stuff will always be popular
Finally, something is actually hurting the GOPe.
HOORAY !!!
Signed,
A conservative Constitutionalist Christian nose-holding Republican
"Goodbye old pal. You served us well."
Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.
Gosh, Trump uses “Blunt Language”...I’m so scared...
Tom Toles is a far left editorial cartoonist. His idea of a right winger is Barack Obama.
“Yes, Trump Does Mean the End of the GOP”
Good.
They don’t get it. WE DON’T CARE ABOUT “THE GOP” when national survival is at stake.
“An ever-shrinking demographic”
Which demographic is still a large majority which holds its fate in its own hands.
I think you were saying this in jest, but perhaps it could promote a multiparty system. The way it is now, nobody is adequately represented.
Oh well.
