Every sulfurous belch from the molten interior of the volcanic Trump phenomenon injures the chances of a Republican presidency. After Donald Trump finishes plastering a snarling face on conservatism, any Republican nominee will face a dauntingly steep climb to reach even the paltry numbers that doomed Mitt Romney.
It is perhaps quixotic to try to distract Trump’s supporters with facts, which their leader, who is no stickler for dignity, considers beneath him. Still, consider these:

So Will can’t grasp that Trump is drawing white voters from other columns, while retaining a healthy portion of law-abiding minorities.
Trump has ruined the GOPe’s chance to play conservative circular firing squad again this election.

it’s one thing to be pugnacious and petty when your world is only as big as NYC, but Trump has to show that he’s more than just a billionaire with a big mouth and a ready putdown for his critics.

go ahead and be all in for Trump without knowing hardly anything about his views on the 20-30 most important issues for conservatives. that’s not the definition of wise.
George Will is a fool with a nice bow tie.
He doesn’t grasp the simple concept of populist appeal. There is no question in my mind that Trump would run away with the election if he were the nominee. Will doesn’t get that millions of people, Dem AND Pubbie, are fed UP with the illegal immigration problem. They’d vote for Trump on that issue alone.
The real question true conservatives should ask themselves is: how truly conservative IS Donald Trump? This is a question George will never fully and accurately explore. It would get him disinvited from too many cocktail parties in the Hamptons.
Aside from Cruz and Trump, the other candidates do not have enough fortitude to stick to what they promise (see McConnell, McCain, Boehner et al). So, would lies on a piece of paper from Jebbie saying that he would curb immigration or cut taxes be enough for you?
Cruz has the strength of his convictions. Trump would not be beholden to any outside lobby groups because he doesn't need their money (Chamber of Commerce).
