Health officials in Ventura County, California, are investigating a possible outbreak of a food-borne illness after dozens of people who either ate or work at one local Chipotle fell ill.
The Ventura County Star reports that a Chipotle in Simi Valley closed for a short time last week after nearly 60 customers and 17 employees complained about feeling ill following a visits to the restaurant on August 18 and 19.
For now the cause of the outbreak, which sent some people to the hospital, remains unknown.
Mike Byrne, Ventura County Environmental Health Division food safety supervisor, says that inspectors and specialists are following up with those who became sick to try to determine if the illnesses stemmed from a specific food problem or if changes are needed make sure food is safe. Customers and employees reported various symptoms following their visits, including fever, diarrhea and vomiting.

I think it was the consumer. We’d known for a long time our food was crap (remember the old instant coffee commercials that basically admitted instant coffee sucks but our brand doesn’t suck as bad) and then in the late 80s and early 90s we started aiming for stuff that was good. It started slow with the rise of tea that wasn’t the usual Lipton swill and then microbrews. Now thanks to Chipotle, Sauce, Rubios, Five Guys and others we even now make fastfood that’s edible. It’s kind of amazing.
Mexican food from Mexico prepared by Mexicans.
And you will never see a Mexican customer in the place. At least not in the Pacific Beach store in San Diego.
Super cute graphic!
I don’t eat at any establishment that welcomes Hillary to dine there.
Chipotle is a long way from Mexican food. Lol
Well I would argue that Chipotle is NOT Mexican food and the one near me is staffed by the same people as Starbucks. Lol. And you’re right, the customers are all white. Mexicans know where the good Mexican food is
No burritos in Mexico?
Or Chick Fil A, right?
I keep telling Mrs. Augie that chipotle is crap food.
I won’t touch the stuff. I’d have to think twice before giving any of it to my chickens.
Did they welcome her? And she didn’t even leave a tip.
I only eat in restaurants with assembly-line preparation or to buffets in the first half-hour or so they're opened. I figure it's clean and the food is safe and there haven't been masses of customers spreading germs at the beginning of the day.
Comedian George Lopez encourages illegal Mexican produce pickers by joking that they wipe their butts with gringo lettuce.
“Pretty good stuff too if you order right.”
That should be a prominent category on the menu. Other categories might include the following:
1. Not pretty good stuff.
2. Montezuma’s revenge.
3. Effluent.
Best breakfast I ever had was made by a black cook in Florida. At a believe it or not, Denny’s. Man that guy could cook.
“Pretty good stuff too if you order right.”
I think Chipotle is Mexican for gristle. Their “steak” is nothing but.
I go barbacoa, fajita style.
I guarantee you if dozens were made sick at a Cracker Barrel, the media would be all over the place reporting the news.”
Probably not so much. Only old people go to Cracker Barrel and you know we are an expendable commodity. Chipolte is a Hillary haunt.
I guarantee you if it were a Chick-Fil-A, the Media would be calling for a Nationwide shut-down.
I get sick at Chipotle, too...when I see the cost of it... :-)
“I go barbacoa, fajita style.”
That’s much better than the steak. Wife gets that too.
