Trump says it’s time to move on from gay ‘marriage’ battle: ‘The Supreme Court ruled.’

LOS ANGELES, CA, August 25, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – The GOP's leading presidential candidate said that he has been to a gay "wedding" and that conservatives should accept the Supreme Court's redefinition of marriage.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Donald Trump was asked whether the issue of marriage's redefinition is "a dead issue for the GOP at this point."

"Some people have hopes of passing amendments [to the U.S. Constitution]," said Trump, "but it's not going to happen. Congress can't pass simple things, let alone that. So anybody that's making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it."

In June, Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper that he had evolved on the issue of marriage, and supports "traditional marriage." At the time, he was pressed by Tapper on whether Trump's three marriages undermined his position.

"They have a very good point," said Trump. "I have a great marriage. I have a great wife now. And I – my two wives were very good. And I don't blame them. But I was working, maybe like you, 22 hours a day."

"I blame myself because my business was so powerful for me. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," he said.

Trump told the Reporter that he had been to the gay "wedding" of Broadway theater owner Jordan Roth.

Let’s face it—the country’s in a tailspin. What good would it do for Trump (or any other candidate) to get caught in the weeds on gay marriage right now? Gay marriage is a MSM trap for any conservative candidate in the general. There are far more pressing issues to deal with at the moment.

Trump is a liberal who has taken up residence in the heads of many gullible conservatives.....

More a populist than a liberal, both are just about as bad. Actually Trump is an anti-intellectual populist protectionist. Throw in a little cult of personality he's developed through years of doing realityTV and you've got Trump. A guy who can say things like this and be forgiven by the very same Trumpettes who would condemn any other candidate for uttering the same.

People see in Trump what they want to see, not what is there. His shtick is all about him, not about policies. Only HE can take on China, Mexico, Japan, etc. How? Never mind that, just trust that he's the ONLY one who can do it. Same with issue after issue. He claims to be able to do these things because ONLY he is qualified. He is a classic populist who is simply using the GOP infrastructure as a route to power.

Some of what he says is good and I agree with, but that is because he knows he has to appeal to conservatives/Republicans right now. He could be a totally different guy if he gets the nomination. You really can't know because the man is not grounded in conservative ideology.

That’s an odd conclusion. Trump is opposed to homosexual marriage and prefers natural marriage. Where’s your beef with him on the positions he has actually taken?

but I can’t fight every battle, just like I can fight every battle with my own kids each and every day. I have to prioritize.

For a lot of us, that prioritization has to include the cornerstone of western civilization well above illegal aliens. As recently as 1986, the Court had ruled that anti-sodomy laws were Constitutional (Bowers v. Hardwick). The fight is never over, and I won't "get over" the idea that two men or two women can present themselves in public the way that a married couple can (increased homo-PDA will be next, if it isn't here already in some places).

This issue caused me to cool down on Walker, it certainly makes me more suspeicious of Trump.

But let's get bogged down with the fantasy of stripping people of their citizenship and deporting them. LOL

I love the way you moderates ooze up out of the slime in every election and try to manipulate whichever direction you personally think it should go.

“Those exact words: No one. Those exact sentiments, quite a few of the sTrumpettes.”

Thanks for the only rational response to my post I’ve seen.

It’s getting fun now to watch the haters, especially here, drive up Trump’s numbers.

So I’m supposed to choose as to whether I want to see America a borderless, lawless third-world cesspit... or a degenerate, morally rotted nation wallowing in faggotry?

This country is so dead.

I wonder how much people are going to care about so called “gay marriage” after several million more jobs leave America and they are standing in soup lines and their children are being sold on auction blocks to Saudi princes. Ultimately, marriage is before God, and He will recognize what He recognizes.

Who here besides you have said any of that?

If you haven't seen those comments in many many Trump threads, you just might be a low info voter. Here's your sign.

This election is about illegal immigration and the economy. As much as you tards would like it to be about gay marriage, thereby handing the left a lifeline, it’s just not going to be. It’s over. We lost. Time to move on to the winning issues that actually affect most Americans.

But the pro-amnesty, anti-gay marriage, crusaders would sell the country down the river more swiftly and surely by overwhelming our system with Leftist Latino voters.

These are dire times and we must prioritize. Our citizenry is with Trump in wanting to rein in illegal immigration, but it is not with his rivals in wanting to fight the Constitutional fight on gay marriage.

Low info voters would consider gay marriage to be a winning issue for the right in 2016. Where is your sign?

Exactly.

It would be nice if Freepers could recognize what is really important right now—and stay focused on it.

Yes, I am ignorant. Thank you for noticing. I am so ignorant that I don’t know why people fled England and Europe for freedom to worship. I am so ignorant I thought this was my birthright as an American.

Thank you for schooling me. Now we must lay down on the tracks while the politicians and the media figure out what rights I may or may not have under this autocratic form of government. Great.

If he is the nominee I will have a HARD time actually casting a vote for him.

I almost feel better to have a full time open liberal in office than someone who is a full time liberal under the guise of conservatism/republican.

I think you know this and are just trolling, but here's just a couple ...

I agree with others TRUMP IS NO REAGAN. He’s better.

“I am Batman,” Trump responded. Trump is great.

So far Trump is Reagan, Churchill, William Wallace, Jesus...and now Gideon.

donald trump: warrior male extraordinaire

Lady Catherine has compiled a list. The cult worship of Trump at FR has reached epic portions.

gay marriage is a state issue.

It is not a legislative issue at all. The Government at any level has NO business being involved in marriage, that is up to the individual churches.
