Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump fired back at Fox News on Tuesday after the network's head and several of its star personalities criticized him in an ongoing feud over anchor Megyn Kelly.
The celebrity real estate tycoon said he "totally" disagreed with a statement from Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes that defended Kelly's "tough but fair" questioning of Trump at the GOP debate Aug. 6.
"I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair," Trump said in his statement, reiterating past criticisms of the host.
"Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as FOX deserves," Trump added in the statement.
A slew of Fox News hosts and personalities slammed Trump after he reignited a feud with the network and its star anchor Monday night, when Kelly returned to the airwaves following a 10-day vacation.
Trump shared several tweets critical of the female host, including one referring to her as a "bimbo."
That set off a series of social media responses from several of her colleagues, including Bret Baier, who told Trump to move on, and Sean Hannity, who told the businessman to "leave @megynkelly alone."
Ailes also issued a lengthy statement Tuesday defending Kelly from Trump's criticism:
Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at FOX News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise.
"I could not be more proud of Megyn for her professionalism and class in the face of all of Mr. Trumps verbal assaults. Her questioning of Mr. Trump at the debate was tough but fair, and I fully support her as she continues to ask the probing and challenging questions that all presidential candidates may find difficult to answer.
"Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should. We have never been deterred by politicians or anyone else attacking us for doing our job, much less allowed ourselves to be bullied by anyone and were certainly not going to start now. All of our journalists will continue to report in the fair and balanced way that has made FOX News Channel the number one news network in the industry.
Despite doubling down again on his criticism of Kelly, Trump also suggested that he may be ready to move on from the public dispute, saying "more importantly" he was pleased to see several new polls showing him in the lead.
"I will be in Iowa tonight with my speech being broadcast live on CNN and other networks," Trump concluded. "My sole focus in running for the Presidency is to Make America Great Again!"
He wants only softball questions.
Post fail. He wants, and expects, better from Fox and other outlets/journalists that consider themselves to be professional news outlets.
Look at the questions CNN and other outlets throw at him. He might not like their questions, but he answers....and then compliments them for being relevant and professional. Something most of FNC/MeGYN is not.
The reason old man Bush won in 1988 is he took on Dan Rather. And Rather never forgot it. In fact, he became so obsessed with destroying Bush that he’s the one who lost in the end. It might happen to Kelly.
She has always lost control when she feels bested or disrespected. Youtube is littered with examples of her losing it.
Theft is real too
I don’t want someone as a leader who is brash enough to go their
The OP said the donations were ongoing, right now, present tense.
But I can see where a Trump hater would miss the point. You specialize in scrutinizing individual trees while the entire forest burns to the ground.
He is a thin skinned, petty, narcissistic egomaniac, a child in need of constant attention. And if you say or do anything he doesn’t like, you’re no longer his friend anymore and he doesn’t want to play with you anymore. In this regards, he reminds of the current occupant of the WH.
“Thats when I saw behind the mask. Then came the debate. Havent watched Megyn Kelly since.”
She’s “dead” to me too, along with several other FNC “Fair and Balanced” news readers.
Democrats are a little easier to buy, so it is a more sure investment?
Democrats control all 3 branches of government?
a cult personality?
I see no difference than during Reagan’s run up to the Presidency
people of all ages and incomes flocked to RR to rid us of the malaise and discontent the country was in
no journalists came out in debates and started asking about RR’s divorce or rumors that he didn’t treat some women with more respect from years earlier or put on the chairman of the DNC to smear him seconds after the debate was over
Lovin’ the cognitive dissonance for the FReepers who don’t like Trump but hate FNC and Kelly with a passion!
It is totally true. Kelly is not a quality journalist. When she saw she could not win in the debate she ran to Debbie Schultz to defend her and to all the feminist sisters complaining how abusive he was.
So Trump is not allowed to defend himself but she is allowed to attack as much as she wants because she is media.
Right!
Trump is showing the media that it is not God. They can never be put back in their place enough times including Kelly.
I think Trump could have completed all of his casinos, golf courses, and skyscrapers without writing any checks to Hillary or Pelousy.
'Quality' journalists are quite well known for posing languidly on day beds next to their collection of pumps.
Well Nick, you’re back, sad to say. What invective on Trump do you have to “share” with all of us today?
She is not a quality journalist, that is a rare thing indeed these days. Trump needs to let it go, no man can look good jabbing at a woman, that is a fact. The best thing he can do at this point is give her enough rope and let her hang herself, and I think she has with viewers so won’t be long until her spotlight dims.
Many if not most conservatives took issue with Kelly’s ‘debate’ performance. You, however, take issue with a GOP candidate standing up for himself and speaking the truth. No doubt you’d prefer he imitate a doormat, a la Rove’s Bush.
Yes, you sound like a smarmy liberal. And more so with every post.
“Senator Cruz, start from you. Any word from God? Kelly asked.”
Bitchin move Megyn. That cost you about a third of your former audience!
LikexI said, you are DEFINITELY not a business man.
And you are almost obscenely naive.
Don’t tune in, erased her from TIVO. Hope Fox will replace her in the next debate.
