Donald Trump Compares Himself to Billy Graham; Says 'My Favorite Book Is the Bible'
Christian Post ^ | 08/23/2015 | Anugrah Kumar

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump looked at the crowd gathered for his rally at a 40,000-seat college football stadium in Mobile, Alabama, saying he now knows how evangelist Billy Graham felt. He also said the book he likes the most is the Bible.

"I know how Billy Graham felt," Trump, a billionaire businessman, said, apparently jokingly, as he began his speech at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Trump also said, "What's my favorite book? The Bible! The Bible. ... We take the Bible all the way," according to The Washington Post's national political reporter Robert Costa, who tweeted the Republican candidate's remarks.

Anticipating a big turnover, Trump's campaign had to change the venue at the eleventh hour, to the football stadium. Trump was planning to hold the rally at the Mobile Civic Center arena, which seats only about 10,000 people, according to Yahoo News.

His campaign, which was expecting a crowd of about 35,000 people at the rally Friday night, also arranged for free shuttle buses, according to Mobile Press-Register.

"We have politicians that don't have a clue," Trump, who was wearing a red hat with his slogan, "Make America Great Again," written on it, said. "They're all talk, no action. What's happening to this country is disgraceful."

The Republican frontrunner added: "We're running on fumes. There's nothing here. ... We're not going to have a country left. We need to have our borders. We need to make great deals."

Talking about illegal immigration, he said, "We've gotta stop it. We're going to build a wall."

"In the case of other countries, including Mexico, you can't walk over the border and have a new citizen," he added. "We're the only place just about that's stupid enough to do it."

At the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa last month, Trump was asked about his faith.

"People are so shocked when they find out I am Protestant. I am Presbyterian. And I go to church and I love God and I love my church," he said.

Asked whether he has ever asked God to forgive him, Trump responded, "I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."

He further explained, "When I drink my little wine — which is about the only wine I drink — and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed. I think in terms of 'let's go on and let's make it right.'"

Talking to CNN later, Trump denied that his statements damaged his chances with Evangelical voters, and said his polling in Iowa is very strong. However, he added that he'd "change" his "tone" as president. "Right now I'm trying to do something to make this country great again."

Which would make him nor worse or better a Christian than most of the Christian populace, or say ... you and I ?

I would hope he's a better Christian than I am, seeing as how I'm Jewish.

Which means he could be telling the truth. Do you know who his pastor was when he was growing up ?

Theoretically, yes he could be telling the truth. I have no way of saying, 100 percent, that he's not. But, based on my observations of his life and career over the past 30 years, I highly doubt it.

“You know, I built that golf course - it’s an amazing course, it really is terriffic, just wonderful. And so, well, if you don’t believe that, then I guess you’re just not a terribly bright person.”

lol! If he said that, many of his supporters would likely believe him and attack those who said it wasn't true.

He's as Christian as Odumbo. Capitalism un-linked from the Gospel is bad juju.

I thought Jesus died on the cross for salvation of our sins. That we were FORGIVEN already by God. That we were to just go on. That if we sinned, we needed to do a better job, be a better Christian. That if we sinned, we should try to make it right.

Now, if he had said whenever he sinned that he just begged God for forgiveness and went on without actually changing, would you have preferred that ?

Which would bring up the question of how you can fairly evaluate the 'faith' of a Christian ?

Loaded question next: What is your favorite book? If your Rabbi asked you this question, what would your answer be ?

But, based on my observations of his life and career over the past 30 years, I highly doubt it.

You must know much more about Trump than I do.

Obama went to Rev. Wright’s Black Supremacy Church for 30 years and Wright was a big influence on him.

Do you think that if Trump went to a church with a very influential minister that it might have had a big influence on him?

Let me ask you this.

Even if Trump was telling the complete truth, would it change your ‘vote or support’ for him ?

"I thought Jesus died on the cross for salvation of our sins."

If one doesn't think they need forgiveness, then there is no need for a savior.
Only those that are ill are in need of a doctor.

Just going to church, or being a "good person" does not make one a Christian.

Trump will say anything to get a headline. I don’t believe he has core beliefs, at least not conservative ones.

Huh? He is being accused of pandering to Christians. Are you saying Christans are the “weakest and most ineffectual group in the nation”? Doubt it, but that’s how it read to me.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. Maybe NAMBLA has less political clout. It's close though.

Trump doesn't need to get too churchy. We don't need another Gary Bauer, Alan Keyes, Pat Robertson, or Huckabee.

The conservative movement needs to get its balls back. Pandering to the church lady crowd is the last thing we need.

One does not have to be a Christian to identify a Christian from a hypocrite.

Thanks.

Did Trump’s pastor curse America like Obama’s?

Doesn’t Kasich, Christie, Jeb Bush, Pelosi, Reid, and etc,.. all claim to be God fearing?

Maybe Trump will do better by God on account of his added responsibility. Perhaps he sees the value in leading by good example at this point in his life.

We’re up to over 2 dozen by my count.

I just sit and read, learn and watch them rant like lunatics over this.

My personal experiences tell me that 1. people like Trump and what he stands for resonates with far more than is even reflected so far. And 2. many people are turned off to Cruz and his habit of breaking into scripture. It doesn’t bother me, but I’ve heard people recoil at all the talk about his faith.

Just my observations in the real world.

Yes you are right. Just going to church on holidays does not make a person a Christian either. Look what the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania claims to be a ‘Christian’. really what fruit is being borne by his constant lying, his hubris and arrogance. What when Odumbass gets to the pearly gates, and he states ‘Well I am the former President of the USA’, St. Peter looks at the Book of Life and Odumbass says ‘I better be in there’, St. Peters states ‘No way’ and Odumbass drops to eternal flame of hell. God is the final judge not man, but what fruit does Trump bear. Just because a man does works of righteousness does that make him holy. Compare Benjamin Carson to Donald trump - One announces his good deeds while the other keeps his deeds quiet. One operated on the brains of children while the other stole property from elderly women under eminent domain to build a Casino. I know there will be others whom claim that Carson belonging to the Seventh day adventist Denomination should exclude him because it is not a Christian church. But what about Trump’s limited attendance at a Presbyterian Church. Now Trump claims he is like Billy Graham. What hubris to claim he is like Billy Graham!

I didn’t hear any pandering. I just heard more honesty, says what he thinks, and to hell with people who want him to say things the way THEY want him to say it.

The writer is either (1)lying, or (2) an idiot. It was a statement having to do with the crowd, not the speaker.
