PORTLAND, Ore. -- A National Guard soldier from Roseburg was among two American service members who took down a gunman who opened fire on a French train Friday.
Alek Skarlatos of Roseburg was riding the train during a European vacation when a young man armed with a Kalashnikov rifle and a box cutter opened fire.
Skarlatos and his traveling companion Spencer Stone, who is in the Air Force heard the gunshots from an adjacent car, according to his father Emanuel Skarlatos.
Of course they knew exactly what it was, being in the military, Emanuel said.

I thought in one of pics that one of the Americans was black. How is that possible? We all know that black guys and white guys can’t work together. /s

I wonder how upset Obama is because these brave men took down this sharia type guy?
"When they come to murder innocents in France
the French police always know them ... and ignore them."
Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Obama has them in front of a court martial.
Thanks for posting this story.
One of the men is in the hospital. Four men supposedly involved, or say they were.
I wouldn’t be surprised either.
And the court martial would be based on what? Based on their taking action where they were not authorized to use force, or something along those lines???
No, he won't like this at all.
Here, 0bama is quoted in another article:
President Obama was briefed on the shooting, and said in a statement, "While the investigation into the attack is in its early stages, it is clear that their heroic actions may have prevented a far worse tragedy."
The investigation is in it's early stages?
WTF does that mean? Maybe is wasn't terrorism?
their heroic actions may have prevented a far worse tragedy.
Ya think?!
What an A-Hole.
Early reports were that the Americans were Marines. With all due respect to the Corps, I guess even non-Marines can have balls.
Apparently, quite a bit upset. In the White House press release, the Potus laments the use of violence, extols the French people for their courage, and gives a passing thumbs up to the couple of Americans who were present at the scene.
Of course, I've grossly paraphrased the press release, but I'm not far off in the sentiment presented..
U.S. Air Force Airman is in the hospital.
National Guard Soldier, black college friend, and some British guy were the other three.
Sorry, no marines. Unless the Brit was one.
I’ve read or heard at least 10 different versions of this now with significant differences among these reports. The only consistency in the stories are the use of an AK-47 and at least one American servicemen being involved. Some stories have 2 servicemen and others have 3 or 4. In some stories, the servicemen are all retired. In some they are active duty. In some they are all injuried, and in others they are all uninjured. Some stories they are Marines, and in others they are Army or Air Force or Navy. Some have a British soldier involved. Some stories have the terrorist getting jumped immediately after leaving a toilet and some have him jumped while running through different train cars. I don’t think we’ll ever get the real story.
1 Air Force, 1 Oregon National Guard, other civilian
Were classmates in high school.....
One of the better sources.
It is just a compilation from other sources.
These men make us proud to be American.
Early reports were that the Americans were Marines.....The French think all US Servicemen are Marines. And they don’t write too good, too.
