MOBILE, Alabama (CNN) Donald Trump brought 30,000 supporters from deep red Alabama to a Friday night pep rally in a football stadium, the latest sign that the Republican front-runner has broad, nationwide strength.
The event was previously planned to be held at the nearby Civic Center but was moved to the 43,000-seat Ladd-Peebles Stadium -- a venue normally home to high school football games -- to accommodate the crowd. The City of Mobile confirmed late Friday that 30,000 people attended.
"It was one of the greatest events Mobile ever put on aside from Mardi Gras," said Colby Cooper, Mayor Sandy Stimpson's chief of staff.
Trump -- whose victory in national and early-state polls is no longer a surprise -- has in recent weeks taken steps to quickly professionalize his political operation.
Brent Fritz and Jacob Murray, 19-year-old students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, drove in Friday morning to see Trump. They left at 4 a.m. ET and arrived around noon local time.
The first person to get in line was retired Marine Keith Quackenbush.
"This isn't about Republicans, it isn't about Democrats, this is a movement of citizens across America tired of the BS," he said.
Amanda Mancini, who said she is part of a new movement called "Women for Trump," flew in from Los Angeles. "I wanted to be part of it. I initially thought it was going to be small, band I thought Trump wouldn't be coming to me in California, so I would have to come to him."
Over an hour of often rambling remarks, the New York businessman reveled in the crowd size while he offered them his usual menu of patriotic pledges and carefree criticism of the media, his opponents and political correctness that he said his crowd similarly despised.

300 people attended Hillary Clintons latest rally. 300
30000 is greater than 28000. Ha
And they were all journalists.
LOL......
Ping to the state list.
Oh noes. That is less than Trump predicted. Screw the nay sayers. Millions watched on TV and online.
The “300 people” articles have been scrubbed. The news media now claims “more than 900” showed up for her Vegas Town Hall event.
Ooooohhhhhh..... 900 people!
Come on, now! That isn't fair. Some of them were Clinton staffers as well. But I repeat myself.
wow, can’t believe CNN is admitting this many showed up. most of the garbage media were trying to pretend like it was 16,000.
looking at the vids of the 43,000 seat stadium, it looked to me like it was about 2/3 full, so my own personal estimate was 30,000.
Interest count frim the city. I had Fox on while working and they to repeat with relish that they thought only 10-12 thousand were showing up. Good to see the higher numbers. Great compared to Bush III, Clinton, and the others. The next number to knock down is Sanders’ 100K in an online rally. Bet when Trump gets around to trying that out he’ll top it—wonder if any service can support a million or more?
Not a single candidate can seriously top Trump on that basic question, not any of them.
The media is still tanked for the skank.
I was there. Couldn’t honestly say how many people were there; I would guesstimate 20-30,000. Very excited and supportive crowd. I think he did well but many still wondering about his true beliefs as am I.
And some posted earlier that the stadium would provide a turnstile count , far better than eyeballing.
That means 298 people were paid to be there with Hillary and Huma to equal 300.
Probably not too important now. As long as there’s a credible headline to repeat.
That’s a pretty amazing turnout on opening night of high school football in the state of Alabama. Throw in that there was some bad weather a few hours prior to the event.
