EXCERPT
I appreciate Governor Bushs concern. I would note it seems hes having a problem and getting confused between legal immigration and illegal immigration, Cruz told reporters here ahead of his soapbox speech at the Iowa State Fair. With regard to legal citizens, Im a United States citizen because my mother was a United States citizen, born in Wilmington, Delaware. And it has been the law since the beginning of the country that the children of American citizens born here or abroad are American citizens by birth.

Cruz is confused too, isn’t he? Not him per se, but if his mother were underage, would she have been able to transmit her citizenship to him, given his father was an alien?

It’s pretty obvious that Jeb Bush does not bear 100% allegiance to the U.S. Mexico gets perhaps as much as half.

This was the GOPe’s way of telling Cruz, “Back off if you want a future.”
Cruz should have called Jeb out on this a lot stronger to seal his position. Something like, “Next Jeb will be calling me an anchor baby.”
To: PghBaldy
Are you saying that underage kids born here, to American parents are not citizens?
Kinda blows the whole anchor baby argument out of the water.

Im a United States citizen because my mother was a United States citizen, born in Wilmington, Delaware. And it has been the law since the beginning of the country that the children of American citizens born here or abroad are American citizens by birth Did anyone ever dispute that
- Stanley Ann Durham was a United States Citizens
- Obama was the child of Stanley Ann Durham
As far as I can recall no one ever did dispute either of those points. So many Freepers would disagree with Cruz. I suspect that many Cruz supporting Freepers would have disagreed with Cruz's simple interpretation of what "natural born" means.
I would not be one of them, because I argued that chlidren of citizens born abroad are "natural born". But there was the whole "Blood AND Soil" crowd, there was the "US Code doesn't let mothers pass on citizenship who are under a certain age" crowd, and a bunch of others.
Perhaps they have all been banned? Or perhaps their detailed parsing of 1800's law dictionaries and the US Code leads them to the belief that Cruz is a citizen?
In the even that Cruz achieves the nomination do people think the Left will challenge him on not being a Natural Born Citizen.
If so, will they manage to advance this argument further than the right was able to on Obama?

“if his mother were underage...”
She wasn’t.
To: AFreeBird
Ted Cruz was born in Canada. To be POTUS (apparently) you can be foreign born if one of your parents is an American citizen. The mother must be of a certain age, however.
