Trump: I don't think children born to illegal parents have citizenship
Hot Air ^ | 8/19/2015 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Mediaite and Politico are running headlines for this segment claiming that Trump said the Fourteenth Amendment is unconstitutional, which is cute but unfair. What he's saying, in his own...folksy way, is that he thinks the Supremes will side with him in finding that birth right citizenship under the Constitution doesn't apply to children of illegals. What's newsy is him implying that that ruling should apply not just prospectively but retroactively ("I don't think they have American citizenship") meaning that many thousands of people - some now adults - who have lived all their lives in America would suddenly find themselves stateless.

Don’t be a clown—that very clearly was his statement from yesterday.

The clip at the link is from four years ago—when he was going on and on about it being granted via the Constitution and then said we shouldn’t bother trying to change it, but that instead all we should do is secure the border.

And I referred you to that link to counter your baseless claim as follows:

“I want Trump to keep saying “I don’t think they have American citizenship.”
Me too.... but the idea came from Ted Cruz..
Good idea no matter the source..”

I agree... but prefer Ted Cruz’s way of handling this Constitutionally..

TRUMP could care less about the American Constitution..
Proof: He was a democrat FOR YEARS.... probably still is..

You can take the democrat out of the party.. but it’s damned hard to remove the democrat from the democrat..

Worked with Reagan somewhat.. but I didn’t agree with some of Reagans ideas.. only with most of them..

I don’t want another Reagan.. I want a Ted Cruz..
SUE ME.... I’m a realist..

“and in my estimation is not a solid conservative”

I believe you, but ironically his position on illegal immigration is the most conservative of all running, with the exception probably of Cruz. Why is that? That’s a genuine question, not a gotcha.

please tell me who the pure conservative candidate is

Pure conservative? 100% agrees with you on every issue? You will have to get in the race for that to happen. If you want someone who will satisfy the <1% most hardcore, traditionalist, uncompromising voters making up less than half of freerepublic members (my wild guess) you are out of luck. I guess Cruz is the closest to that. Maybe Carson. The way the Dems are melting down one of them could probably get elected. Neither would be my first pick but I would get wholeheartedly behind them if they got the nomination.

Except for the "deport 'em all" part he talked about last week (and is not in the outline he released the other day) I suspect there are probably 4 or 5 other candidates whose immigration plans are not appreciably different than Trumps. Oh, yes, I almost forgot about the end birthright citizenship aspect. That is not particularly conservative in my opinion since it bucks 150 years of tradition and constitutional law. I believe Trump fixed on immigration as his showcase issue because he saw that Americans are greatly dissatisfied about our open borders chaos and saw an opportunity to advance his cause on it. Because he is a terrific opportunist.

That idea is entirely American. Why reward law breakers. Did Little Jose find out his mommie and daddy were criminals when they dumped his ass in this country. He should have been so embarrassed by their behavior and in turn apply for naturalization to overcome his family guilt.

Why should Americans have to suck it up and pay for these arseholes?

Fark them all. Get rid of the dead weight.

Julia Lynch’s parents never sought citizenship nor had any inclination to procure it, and yet Julia Lynch (born in the U.S. to them) never had her citizenship stripped from her after an 1844 court case.

Retroactively taking away citizenship (or saying they never had citizenship in the first place) would take away Julia Lynch’s citizenship and everyone else here that is 100 to 1 years old and had parents who are/were illegals.

Bunch of ignorant Trump Bots here who really don’t think things through. I have already wasted my time responding to them.

No one can strip away Julia Lynch’s citizenship or say she was never a citizens to begin with. Even after a court decision was overturned (which was in her favor), she still NEVER lost her citizenship after the courts said she was a citizen in 1844, and even though her parents never had any inclination to become U.S. citizens and she was born on U.S. soil to them.

The same way, someone who is 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 or even 5 years old cannot have their citizenship taken away if they were born on U.S. soil to an illegal or illegals, and thereby they cannot be deported.

The amendment is quite clear as to “subject to the laws of the United States” which the illegals and their anchor babies are not.

I'm sure the thousands of illegal aliens sitting in US prisons will be relieved to hear that.
