The Trump has landed - Deal With It (Time Mag cover story)
TIME MAGAZINE ^ | Michael Scherer

Posted on 08/20/2015 5:56:57 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

There are some things you just can’t do in politics, not at the presidential level, anyway.

This is a game like any other, with rules honed over decades by the pros in blue blazers clutching focus-group results: Be likable. Don’t make enemies. Respect the party elders. Avoid funny hats. And never wear white bucks or French cuffs to the Iowa State Fair, a flyover fantasyland of cholesterol and common decency where the life-size butter cow grazes behind glass with the life-size butter Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly.

That’s why Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker wore jeans to pose atop the hay bales this year. Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina featured pink plaid—Farmer Jane meets Disney princess—and Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton dug up a blouse of blue gingham, hoisting her pork chop on a stick like a blue ribbon for authenticity. They all played it well, adhering to the sacred promise that if they pretend to be like everyone else, voters might think they actually are.

Then a buzzing came across the sky. A $7 million Sikorsky helicopter, sent over six states in at least four hops by its billionaire owner, descended in tight circles on the crowd, the name of the Republican front runner for the 2016 presidential nomination emblazoned on the tail. Donald John Trump, at roughly 25% in the national GOP polls, about twice his nearest rival, emerged in Des Moines with his golden mane encased in a big ruby baseball cap, his cuffs flashing diamond links and his shoes shining brighter than bleached teeth.

The state trooper in charge of the event told the governor that in all his years working the fair, he had never seen a candidate mobbed like Trump.

Despite his French cuffs, diamond cuff links, big bucks, (and that commanding aura he projects of power, money and glamour), he still looks like a man who’s about to paint the garage. That’s part of his appeal, as well.

Excellent point.

Well, they are close. I traveling from Middle Village to Williamsburg today - despite horrible traffic, it’s really a short drive.

What if he’s just controlled opposition? Everyone seems to be swooning over him and it’s all just a little too perfect.

Maybe.

I have to snicker at the silly pettiness in refering to Trump as a “condo promoter”. Anyone who’s had enough energy and curiosity to click a mouse, could do a cursory search of Donnie’s holdings and be forced to realize that a snide monicker such as that doesn’t fit. It only reveals the green-eyed jealousy of the name caller. But go ahead. Knock yourself out. The man has more ghestalt in his pinkie finger...

The key thing about that magazine being in every Doctor’s office, Dentists office etc is that if you’re in an office and see the magazine MOVE IT TO THE TOP OF THE PILE.

This goes for people who aren’t supporting Trump but one of the other GOP candidates instead. Regardless of whether you support Trump or not right now he’s doing an invaluable service to Conservatism by changing the rules of the game to our favor.

Last evening, it being Wednesday, I tuned in to OReally for the MillerTime segment. Toward the end Bill asked Miller who he likes in the R group of candidates.

The look on OReally’s face for just an instant when Dennis said, “I like Trump,” was priceless. Dennis then enlarged upon his answer, that our Country is in trouble, and Trump is the only one clearly saying what those troubles are, and what he guarantees to do about them.

Did I get this right; yesterday Cher said that if Trump becomes POTUS, she’s moving to another planet? I forgot which one she said.

Watch out for the doorknob, Cher!

Martha MacCallum in for “vacationaing” Kelley on The Kelly File, started the show yesterday with some very favorably video from Trump’s speeches yesterday. It was beautiful, and MacCallum clearly enjoyed reporting it.

Good cover photo, which probably matters as much as anything, and then a snearing, biased piece by a reporter who used to work for Mother Jones and salon.com.

Trump had to OK the cover. He wouldn’t let anything go out like an interview with photos that might tarnish his brand.

Good cover photo and they spelled his name right. So I guess the important stuff is covered, despite the slanted reporting in the actual story.

(Who reads anymore anyway?)

On the plus side, I saw this yesterday. Warmed my heart.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Billionaire Donald Trump, America's toughest employer, would like to fire the Bush Administration for its decision to invade Iraq, according to an interview in the August edition “Esquire,” due to be released on Friday. “Look at the war in Iraq and the mess that we're in. I would never have handled it that way. Does anybody really believe that Iraq is going to be a wonderful democracy where people are going to run down to the voting box and gently put in their ballot and the winner is happily going to step up to lead the country?,” said the host of NBC’s “The Apprentice,” whose hallmark line is “You're fired.”
