There are some things you just cant do in politics, not at the presidential level, anyway.
This is a game like any other, with rules honed over decades by the pros in blue blazers clutching focus-group results: Be likable. Dont make enemies. Respect the party elders. Avoid funny hats. And never wear white bucks or French cuffs to the Iowa State Fair, a flyover fantasyland of cholesterol and common decency where the life-size butter cow grazes behind glass with the life-size butter Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly.
Thats why Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker wore jeans to pose atop the hay bales this year. Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina featured pink plaidFarmer Jane meets Disney princessand Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton dug up a blouse of blue gingham, hoisting her pork chop on a stick like a blue ribbon for authenticity. They all played it well, adhering to the sacred promise that if they pretend to be like everyone else, voters might think they actually are.
Then a buzzing came across the sky. A $7 million Sikorsky helicopter, sent over six states in at least four hops by its billionaire owner, descended in tight circles on the crowd, the name of the Republican front runner for the 2016 presidential nomination emblazoned on the tail. Donald John Trump, at roughly 25% in the national GOP polls, about twice his nearest rival, emerged in Des Moines with his golden mane encased in a big ruby baseball cap, his cuffs flashing diamond links and his shoes shining brighter than bleached teeth.
The state trooper in charge of the event told the governor that in all his years working the fair, he had never seen a candidate mobbed like Trump.

Great article, I’ll have to pick up the magazine when I’m in town.
Some Freepers go insane during every Presidential election cycle...particularly those whose candidate is losing.
Of the posters at liberal forums are insane all the time.
Yeah, Hillary. That sure proves your one of us.
Then that’s amazing, simply amazing. No other candidate can go on that show, and relate.
I think this whole thing is over. The candidates need to coalesce behind him. Cruz his VP. Announce it now, and let’s get this show going.
Post 17. Good suggestion.
Yep. Trump's unstoppable.
Even Tingles Matthews is blown away by Trump (but I’ll bet he is a Hillary supporter in private).
Matthews said ‘if Hillary drops out,’ he will retire from Hard Ball.
An article was posted here last night.
I'm not sure, but there were Trumps that served in the 11th VA Infantry (Mustered in Lynchburg) during the war of Northern Aggression - They served with my great-great- Grandfather. I recently reviewed his unit roster.
“Yep. Trump’s unstoppable.”
What if he’s just controlled opposition? Everyone seems to be swooning over him and it’s all just a little too perfect.
Just move the election up to this NOvember.
CAn you imagine, if all the candidates one by one coalesced behind him? Then it’s over. Hillary and rest could keep talking, and he could take the high road.
I think he will do it if he is not violating any election laws.
This plays right into his ego. Forcing CNN to pay for him to play.
Trump controlled? He's uncontrollable. Just ask Rosie O'Donnell or rewatch the GOP debate.
Prediction: Trump might become the de facto President by this time next year...Obama will be a shadow in office and the Democratic candidates irrelevant.
I think we would all love for someone to stick it to CNN!
Gosh I loathe them!
Despite his French cuffs and bucks, he still looks like a man who’s about to paint the garage. That’s part of his appeal as well.
That may well be true! Not sure what it means, but it may be true!!!
That’s not photoshopped. Morning Joe had a funny sequence with this this morning with that nasty beast flying about his office.
I see he’s knocked off saying he grew up in Brooklyn. When he first said that I did a double-take. He’s now back to saying he’s from Queens.
