Aug 19, 2015 For Hispanic Conservatives, Alarm Over Immigration Debate
By AARON ZITNER
Concern over the tone adopted by some GOP candidates in the latest immigration debate has turned to alarm among some Hispanics. Getty Images When Donald Trump used the word criminals to describe illegal immigrants from Mexico, the Republican National Hispanic Assembly called his comments extremely counterproductive.
Now, listen to the more personal language that Gonzalo Ferrer, the national chairman of the group, uses to describes Mr. Trumps most recent contributions to the immigration debate: Extremely bigoted, offensive to all Hispanic-Americans, unconstitutional . . . and self-defeating.
Mr. Trump, he said, shows reckless disregard for the harm he is causing to Republican Hispanic-American families and to the Republican cause.
These are troubling days for many people trying to promote the Republican Party and conservative ideals to Hispanic voters. Concern over the tone adopted by some GOP candidates has turned to alarm.
An immigration debate that long turned on sensitive matterssuch as whether to provide some kind of legal status to undocumented workersis now focusing on more explosive issues. Those include the idea of deporting millions of illegal immigrants and ending birthright citizenship, the 147-year-old principle that anyone born on U.S. soil is a U.S. citizen, even if his or her parents entered the country illegally.
Both ideas were embraced by Mr. Trump over the weekend.
More than anything so far, some conservative Hispanic leaders say, these ideas cause Hispanic voters to question whether they have a home in the GOP. Basically, they are saying, We dont want you. Get out, said Mr. Ferrer,...

“the 147-year-old principle” - Why am I not shocked that the WSJ is lying?
If they are conservative, they should not have an issue with our immigration laws being enforced. That is mostly what is being discussed.
Well I guess it depends on if they are “Hispanics” or “Americans”. If they’re Americans they care about America. Otherwise they’re just looters in America.
I love how we’re being turned in to second class citizens in our country and no one cares. :)
The only Hispanics that are concerned are ones here illegally. As a Hispanic myself, I say build the wall locate fine and deport the illegals of all stripes.
What are these so called CONSERVATIVE Hispanics CONSERVATIVE about?
“Hispanic voters to question whether they have a home in the GOP.”
If you vote for Sr. heb bush the GOP love you long time.
If your group demands/needs affirmative-action racial preferences, your group fails to assimilate.
If your group contributes to the international Jihad, your group fails to assimilate.
If your group exceeds the average for participation in crime, your group fails to assimilate.
In other words, our immigrants should come from Europe and from some non-Muslim Asian countries. And that's about it.
Whenever I read “concern”, I think “wishful thinking by the author”
Nothing. Hispanic voters reward politicians who give them racial-preferences for college and jobs, an expanded welfare state, and lax treatment of their illegal friends and relatives - in other words, liberal democrats.
Which is why their growing numbers are giving (have given?) the Democrats a permanent lock on the Electoral College, which in turn will destroy our homeland.
Large scale Hispanic immigration is an unmitigated disaster, far worse than Pearl Harbor or 9-11, because unlike those events, it will actually end the USA.

2nd (Second) Paragraph, 3rd (Third) sentence.
The term "hyphenated American" was published by 1889,[2] and was common as a derogatory term by 1904. During World War I the issue arose of the primary political loyalty of ethnic groups with close ties to Europe, especially German Americans and also Irish Americans. Former President Theodore Roosevelt in speaking to the largely Irish Catholic Knights of Columbus at Carnegie Hall on Columbus Day 1915, asserted that,[3]
There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic
There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
If they support flouting our laws to enable an alien invasion they’re wolves wearing republican wool; “Raza Republicans”
Indeed. Open borders cheap labor appears to be the one political position every WSJ opinion editor or writer must hold. And that goes back well before Murdoch bought the rag.
A pretty sorry foundational principle.
listen to the more personal language that Gonzalo Ferrer
Listen to MY more personal language: Anyone who snuck in here illegally should take their butts back to where they came from.
You are thieves, no better than burglars. GO HOME!
As (1) an American, and, (2) a bonafide Republican, let me repeat that: "We don't want you. Get out."
"Republican Hispanics voters", my aunt tilly....more like con artists playing the good cop, bad cop game. The Latino Bund is taking their marching orders from across the border. They'll do whatever is necessary to get ahold of our riches and wealth....to over throw the US govt....to launch their dream of "Reconquista."
These deluded dumb-bells still think the SW belongs to them.
I, for one, think Ferrer should be the first to get his *** hauled over the border. We don’t want people on US soil who are colluding and conspiring to overthrow the US govt.
Works for me.
Can we find all the horses that are needed?
LOL.
