Why Donald Trump makes sense to many voters — even some Democrats
The Washington Post ^ | August 15,2014 | David Weigel

Posted on 08/15/2015 12:26:42 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Bob Parsons explained that Trump could ignore lobbyists. It was lobbyists, hungry to sell out America for a buck, who weakened the trade deals, he said.

“You wouldn’t believe how many young kids I met in Afghanistan who have their degrees but can’t find jobs at home,” he said. “I compare Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan. He lets people know what he’s going to do, not what to ask for.”

When he hit the stage, Trump delivered. He went after China. He played out one of his favorite scenarios, in which he works the Oval Office phones, ignoring the president of Ford – and his lobbyists – and wages tax war on his company for shipping jobs to Mexico. . Gov. Rick Snyder, who became wealthy as a computer company executive, had never sought office before that year. In an interview, he tried to be polite about Trump.

“We have a broken political culture,” he said. “I’m upfront about that.” And despite it, Michigan was marching out of the recession with new manufacturing jobs. The one-industry towns like Flint were diversifying. People understood that they could no longer walk out of high school and start a career, so they were getting trained, he said.

“That could happen in high school, through career training,” Snyder said. “We need to redefine skilled trades as being much broader than what they’ve been. If you’re a welder, you can get a job in any corner of this state.”

People think China is low end. It’s not 1995, they are rapidly moving up the supply chain.

They are taking Boeing trade secrets and in a generation they will make their own planes.

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20120317/ISSUE01/303179980/china-leans-on-boeing

The situation for all leading edge US companies is near critical when it comes to China.

For instance Cisco Systems had a revenue of 47 billion dollars last year while its Chinese competitor Huawei had a revenue of 288 billion dollars.

Will Davie Weigel ever apologize to Michelle Malkin for saying she caused the suicide death of some treasonous lesbian who was President of one of our rotten universities? I have very little respect for that bum.

For one thing, he’s very left-wing and used to be a Dem not that long ago, and still strums the leftist populist themes (single payer health care, etc.). The guy is from a wealthy family and if you’re looking for the 1%, he’s it. But he’s essentially a television shock jock, and this is what he’s running as, which appeals to people who watch a lot of TV (Dems and the elderly).

This approach attracts a lot of low information voters.

I agree completely.

America’s companies have completely sold out to China. China currently makes 342 billion dollars / year more that they sell to America, than America makes to sell to China, and that gets worse every single year. It is even heading higher this year, than it was last year.

Both parties are to blame. Donald Trump is about the only person in any party saying we need to bring back American jobs to America.

Donald Trump is for American jobs.

Blah blah blah.

Trump is saying American needs to bring back jobs to America.

He’s virtually alone, saying that. A lot of people believe that, more all the time.

I'm missing seeing Ted Cruz. I'd probably make him Veep and put Carson on the CDC.

I'd keep the BATF but give them a new mission: Promoting the shooting sports, for one. I'd appoint Ted Nugent as head.

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives used to be products found at the general store, back when America was free.

Federal law established the CMP for that purpose. Ted Nugent will be a good fit on their board when he's older, now he's doing similar work in his position on the NRA board.

Trump was a Dem before 1988 Republican Convention, when Trump stumped for Bush and Quayle?

All of his positions are Dem positions, ranging from single-payer health care (aka, socialized medicine) to his social positions. He has changed nothing, but is good at saying what he thinks people want to hear.

He bailed on his mayoral run because he couldn’t take the heat - people actually asked him questions and wanted to know his positions? This would be similar to Fox News asking him for his real positions...and his running out to complain that they were being unfair by actually expecting him to articulate a position.

Can you state what he thinks about anything? That’s okay, he probably can’t either.
