Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said Thursday that parents should not be forced to vaccinate their children against diseases like measles or mumps. However, she said she also believes schools should be free to make vaccinations for communicable diseases a requirement for attendance, saying families have to "make that trade-off" for themselves.
Fiorina told reporters after the event that "when you have highly communicable diseases where you have a vaccine that's proven, like measles or mumps, then I think a parent can make that choice."
California, where Fiorina ran for a Senate seat against Democrat Barbara Boxer in 2010, recently passed a law requiring nearly all schoolchildren to be vaccinated. Several calls to tighten the state's vaccine laws erupted after a measles outbreak last December was found to have originated in Disneyland.
Fiorina expressed her disapproval of the mandate, saying that "California is wrong on most everything, honestly."

DREAM on, iCarly.
But, But.... I thought the vaccinated kids are immune? How could they possibly catch a disease from a non-vaccinated, disease-ridden crumb-snatcher?
Oh, I’m sure they would. My own children were vaccinated, for the record, although I made decisions on their schedule.
Still, there are children who’ve died or been seriously injured by vaccinations.
And more and more shots are added to the schedule. Right now, the recommended schedule is up to 24 vaccinations, all before a child turns two, and that number doesn’t even include flu shots. After age two, the vaccinations continue.
This is not like a parent choosing not to send his child to, say, church. That decision only affects the child. But an unvaccinated child can do harm to a vaccinated child. As I mentioned in an earlier post, no vaccine is 100% effective. So when a parent chooses not to vaccinate his child against, say, mumps, that parent is also putting everyone's children at risk for mumps. And I'm not talking about just at schools. I'm talking about on playgrounds, in movie theaters, etc.
Regarding "government coercion", the government coerces me to obey the speed limit. That's a reasonable thing to do, because without such coercion innocent people will suffer.
But I will not defend all government health coercion. I trust my local doctor. But I no longer trust the government health authorities. Unlike in days past, today's health authorities do not always put the public health first. Often there is a hidden political agenda. So if my doctor says vaccine my kids, I'll vaccinate my kids.
I'm on this thread as defending vaccinations. But you sure do cite an interesting statistic. I wonder how many of those vaccinations are done purely to avoid a lawsuit.
” I wonder how many of those vaccinations are done purely to avoid a lawsuit.”
Lawsuit about what by whom?

>> “ But an unvaccinated child can do harm to a vaccinated child.” <<
That is about the absurdest statement I have read in years.
Vaccinations cause more deaths than the natural occurances of disease ever could.
The lion’s share of reported measles deaths are the result of the vaccine itself.
.
I agree with her position. Nobody should be forced to vaccinate their children against their will.
If parents want their kids to attend public schools and the schools require vaccination then I guess the parents will have to vaccinate.
Hmmm. Choices ...
Private schools, homeschool, relocate, start a school with your fellow anti-vaxers...
School is mandatory, public school attendance is not.
It’s not just the kids anymore. You will soon be getting at least one vax a year, probably more, just to remain insured under Obamacare. Or employed.
And there are 200+ new vaccines in the pipeline.
Remember those tacky shirts from the 80’s with the roll up sleeves that buttoned? Invest in those, you’ll need them.
.
No vaccination could ever prevent a lawsuit.
They used to cause loads of them until congress gave the poison manufacturers immunity from the consequences of their death dealing potions.
.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's perfectly reasonable to be skeptical and asked pointed questions about the risk/benefit calculations for specific vaccine. We did that with Gardasil a few years ago. But my point was that the people we know who best informed about vaccines are unwilling to expose their healthy children to communicable diseases for which there are reasonably safe (but obviously not risk-free) vaccines.
Finally some common sense.
.
>> “I grew up during the Polio scare” <<
So did I.
I assume you mean the polio scare of the early ‘50s, that was caused by the Salk vaccine.
.
I don't know about that, but it seems reasonable. But it's a false argument! And it's a false argument because so many people in America are already vaccinated that a measles death is relatively rare.
So consider a country where, say, only 20% of the population is vaccinate against measles. Then your statement certainly would not be true.
Tin foil hats are no longer needed dontcha know? This is the age of Obama. There are no more conspiracies just the unveiling of truth.
I know six now who don’t vax at all. For anything. Their reasoning for the most part is the inclusion of fetal dna fragments in the live vaccines and the presence of mercury and/or aluminum in all of them.
Of the docs you know who admit to vaccinating, how many of them still have minor children at home and currently practice licensed medicine. The medical boards are ruthless in their repression of anyone who doesn’t toe the official line.
The common argument is that they’re either all made in China or elsewhere with ingredients made in China. And the manufacturers are indemnified. What could possibly go wrong!?
Look at the schedule since the manufacturers were indemnified in ‘86. How many of the vaxs since then are for ‘pandemic’ ‘easily communicable’ diseases.
Most of the rest give the ‘88 schedule, delayed. A couple have given the HepB to teens because risk for that goes up when sexual activity becomes more likely. Unlike with 12hr old infants. Or even 2yr olds.
And then there’s this stuff:

Which makes anyone who’s ever done science for a living wonder just how much OTHER inconvenient research has gone into a big garbage can...
